Hey Gang: I was the OP on a Thread about Tanning Parlors....well....you all that responded to me on just how bad they really are....will be glad to know that I am NOT going to go anymore!!!! :thumbsup2

Now my NEW question....

I would like to use those NO SUN SUN TAN LOTIONS (as you can tell I have NO clue as to what to buy OR for that matter what they are even called)!!! :sunny:

I goggled MYSTIC TAN in my area SOUTH Central Mass and found ZERO!!! I plan to keep looking BUT in the mean time....who has had good luck with those SELF-TANNERS and would you please recommend a name and how to exactly apply it (tips)!!! I don't care about BUDGET the money I will be saving from NOT going to the Tanning Parlor will go towards my NEW self-tanners. :sunny:

I have 3 showers, 2 weddings, 1 college grad and 1 h.s grad ALL TO GET DRESSED FOR and would like a little "color"!!! :)

Thanks for your replies!!!

I know tanning is bad, but I'm doing it. You can tell when people have fake tans. Call any tanning salon, you would be surprised how many have their own self-tanning spray booths.

I use the Clinique Self tanners on my face and body (two different products) and they look great. They are a bronze color so you can see where you apply them and can cover all areas without streaking. The best tip I ever got was to shave your legs in the morning, then exfoliate at night and then apply the tanner. If you shave your legs and then apply the tanner soon after, you will get tanner in your open pores and it doesn't look smooth. I turned to self tanning about 10 years ago and haven't been disappointed yet in the Clinique product. HTH

I use a product called Fake Bake, it's an excellent product with a natural tan look. First I exfolitate in the shower. It's good to do this to get a more even coverage. Then when I am ready to apply the self tanner I put on rubber gloves. This is so that your palms don't turn an unnaturally dark color. I mix the self tanner with a skin moistureizer, half and half. Apply evenly, but be careful around your ankles. For some reason, this area likes to "grab" color. When I have finished, I remove the gloves and apply a small amount to my hands. Be careful of what you wear immediately after applying. Until it has absorbed and is totally dry, it can rub off onto your clothes.

Good for you, momrek06, smart lady. :thumbsup2 You'll be enjoying those fakes tans for many years to come, on nice skin. :thumbsup2

I use jergens natural glow lotion. It might not give you enough color though, it doesn't really make you look "tan" more just that you're not white.

I have actually learned to love my pale "creamy" skin, and actually get compliments all the time.

I use the jergens on my legs. I like the less strong stuff that takes lots of applications to work rather than the dark. It doesn't streak or turn as orange. Because it goes on gradually it is much more even.

Here's the Mystic locator

I really like the 'new' 4 way machines.

For self tanners. I like to start with Jergens Natural Glow. It won't get you dark-dark but it looks very natural. Get the one for medium or dark skin.

I like Loreal Sublime Bronze.

I also use the Sally Hanson body makeup and spray on sun mixed with a shimmer lotion but if you are really pale it can look orangy. The self tanners with bronzers like the Nurtagena one will wash off with water but the Sally Hanson stuff you need soap and a washcloth so it doesn't rub of if you sweat or otherwise get wet.

I also love my "creamy pale" skin (although I usually refer to it as pasty white :rotfl2: ) I tried self tanners several years ago and gave up on them because they were so streaky and obvious on my very fair skin. I think I'll give the Jergens a try this year on my legs, though. I only want the subtlest hint of color, so maybe this is the stuff for me, huh?

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!! :thumbsup2

I NOW HAVE SOME FABULOUS CHOICES TO MAKE!!!! :sunny:

This is going to be the first summer I will avoid the Sun in a Comando style. I also will try to embrace my 100% Irish skin. I never was a sunworshiper, wore a baseball hat kind of girl in the sun. Short stint in the tanning beds, UGH!

Thanks for the info on the less strong stuff I did'nt realize It doesn't streak. So you do not have to be as careful applying?

I am very fair. We call it booty-white at our house. ;) I have tried several self tanners and found the Jergens Natural Glow works best. It doesn't streak as easily or leave patches as it fades over time. I'm not the most meticulous applier (think exfoliator, hand washing, blah..blah), so this product worked the best. :thumbsup2 I plan on starting it back up again soon. Good luck!

Oh! I agree with the others who posted that it doesn't make you dark either. It gives you a nice color, but not really "tan". You don't look like you just got back from Spring Break. ;)

I just went 2 weeks ago along with my DH and we both got Mystic Tans for a trip we were going on. It cost $30 a piece! We have both used fake tanning lotions in the past, specifically a brand called Banana Boat. We found teh Mystic Tan to be no better than the Banana Boat lotion - with the exception that the Mystic Tan is applied for you by the booth. Mystic Tan gives you a barrier lotion you put on your hands and feet to keep them from getting streaked....but it didn't work very well for either of us, we both had major streaks. I would not do a "professional" spray tan again, the cost is ridiculous and you can get the same effect doing it yourself with a good self tanning lotion.

Check out www.sunless.com for some decent tips and product recommendations. I have tried the No-Ad Sunless tanner with good results. I find mixing the tanner with body lotion will eliminate the streaks.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Jergen's Natural Glow!! Yes, it's gradual and not as dark, but there are no streaks and it doesn't look fake.

I can spot a tanning bed tan a mile away too.
