I'm trying to decide which one to go with...
tank tops or t-shirts for both myself and
my DD. Obviously the tanks would be
cooler. However, then I would have to worry
about possible sunburn on the shoulders.
I know, I know, I will put sunscreen on, but
with the rides and harnesses, it could possibly
get rubbed off there first.

What do you do?

What you wear has a lot to do with your skin type. I have red hair and hardly ever go out in a tank top, just asking for disaster. If you must wear a tank get some of the spray on sunscreen, it only takes a minute to apply and does not get all over your hands. 16 days and counting till we hit Disney! :cool1:

I wore tanks last time and my shoulders did give a bit pinker than the rest of me. I say as long as you wear sunscreen, you should be okay. Also, keep an eye on it and get out of the sun if you need to.

Ive decided to pack both for our Aug trip. Will only pack enough for 7days (7 tanks, 7 tshirts) and do laundry 1/2 through our 2wk vacation.
I wasnt thinking sunburned shoulders - I was thinking cold shoulders in A/C

I packed both but most days sunburn wasn't a problem :umbrella:  . It was definitely a problem in the A/C though - had to send DH to the car for fleeces in Cracker Barrel :rotfl2:

We carried sun wipes so it was easy to have a quick rub-over. I did also take out (but not use) a thin cotton blouse to put over the tanks if it got very hot - but not needed :sad2:

but mostly for me (don't like to sweat) taking tanks for all days.
We're leaving next month...

Tanks & sleeveless tops here as well. I'll take a few t-shirts, but don't wear them in the parks. The PP who suggested spray-on sunscreen was right on. We use Coppertone Sport - it sprays great, dries very quickly and isn't sticky.

You could also carry a large but lightweight scarf to arrange tastefully over your shoulders if you get a bit pink princess:

I take sleeveless tops for my 7 year old daughter. We put the first round of sunscreen on the in room before she puts the shirt on and apply it everywhere from her chest up so if the sleeves slip, she's go the sunscreen on (we do it at the beach too).

Thanks for everyone's replies.
I think I will try the tank tops,
at least to start, with the spray
on sunscreen.

Thanks again.
Lori

I'd recommend t-shirts. Most people in my class wore tube tops and needless to say they all got fried. I was the only one whose shoulders werent killing them. You can also wear a visor to keep the sun off your face. When you wear tanks, make sure you reapply sunscreen every 2 hours or so no matter what the bottle says! You can never be too careful :sunny:

Are there any table service restaurants in the parks that won't allow tank tops? I wouldn't want to head back to the resort just to change a shirt...

You won't have any problems with table service inside of the parks wearing a tank top. We see lots of people sitting down in a nice air conditioned restaurant with tanks on. :flower:

i usually wear tank tops during the day because they are cooler for the hot disney sun :sunny: and in the evening i wear lightweight t-shirts. :earsgirl:

I am going to wear a tank top, and then bring a light cotton button up shirt for when I start getting too pink. It is a real light cotton blouse that is textured so wrinkles won't matter. I will roll it up and keep it in my bag when I am not needing it. I can keep it unbuttoned, and it will be cooler than a t-shirt, but still protect my shoulders.

I agree that your skin type has a lot to do with what you should wear. I'm not a readhead but I burn like one! Personally I wouldn't put a tank top on a child in the Florida sun. I don't know how old your daughter is, but kids have super delicate skin as I'm sure you know. And each sunburn you get as a child (well, your whole life really) increases the likelihood you will eventually develop skin cancer). I wouldn't wear a tanktop in the Florida sun or anywhere in the Caribbean for any length of time during the day. The sun is just too strong there. Last year I made the mistake of wearing a tank in St. Thomas while DH and I did some duty free shopping, and even though I was wearing SPF 45 and only sat in the sun for about 1/2 hour I'm still freckly a year later. Just something to think about. :sunny:
