I bought a new Tanita scale last night. I really needed to have an accurate reading to keep me motivated.

I will say that I am a little depressed because apparently my old scales were really off (12 pounds) so I really weigh more and my BF is terrible. I guess that is why I have to keep motivated.

I was a little confused. Usually everyone says to get weighed first thing in the morning. The instructions state to wait a few hours after waking up. I understand not weighing yourself after exercising or a big meal.

I did notice that my BF was 1% less last night compared to this morning, but I weighed a 1/2 lb more????

Any clarification for me:confused:

I think it is so you can eliminate everything you need too...I dunno. I read that somewhere...

I bought a Tanita, too after researching scales using Consumer Reports. Tanita they said was the most accurate for weight, but can be way off when it comes to measuring body fat. So I use mine just for weight.

I think Glo is probably right about the elimination thing.

The weight should really be taken first thing in the morning after elimination. You are not weighing ingested food and water that way... as you have just completed your sleep fast.

The body fat measurement however, is actually best done later in the day after you have drank some water - because hydration IMPROVES the accuracy of the reading. Women especially can get very different readings from day to day ... because our bodies tend to hold and release water so much more erratically then men do.

I weigh every morning for my weight monitoring. About once a month I do the body fat measurement as well... and I am really watching it for the trend - not so much the actual number. By doing it the same time every day I tend to get pretty consistent readings.

Hope that helps.

I have one of those! I'm sorry your old one was so off - what a bummer. Oh well, now you know and it's all downhill from here! I think the most important thing about weighing in is doing it at the same time every time - wearing or not wearing the same each time. I weigh in every morning (don't get mad at me, guys, it's just how I do it) totally nekked! I even take my rings and watch off - if I could figure out how to read the scale w/o my glasses I'd do that, too. If I waited until after my morning, you know what, I'd weigh a bit less, but I need my coffee more than that couple of oz.

The BF thing is really weird - and yes it does change from evening to morning - and I don't know why. For me the number is very scary - and very very slow to go down as you lose. Use one of the BMI calculators online to calculate your progress, and close your eyes on the BF number on your scale.

I really love mine! Congrats on getting one.
