Tampa Baseball

Hi

We want to do something a bit different this year and fancy going to watch a game of baseball at Tampa (Tampa Bay Rays?).

Can someone please help and tell me how long it will take to drive from Disney to Tampa.

The Tampa Bay Rays play their games in St. Petersburg which is a little bit beyond Tampa - across the bay from Tampa. It's probably 90 miles or so from the general Disney area to Tropicana Field. Depending on the time of day that you'd be travelling (rush hour traffic can slow travel as you pass near the downtown Tampa area) and whether there's construction along the interstate highway system. It would take you at least 1 1/2 hours to get to the parking lot.

I know that the Rays have a few regular season (not Spring Training) games at WDW. They have already played at least one that I know of but you could also check and see if they're playing at WDW when you're there.

We just went a couple of weeks ago to see the Rays play the Red Sox. I would plan on a good hour and a half as stated above, but we then waited another hour plus when we got off I-275 to park. Luckily we planned on getting there a couple of hours early, but only got in about 20 minutes before game time. Stadium was right in sight but we hardly moved in over an hour, and I never saw any evidence of any type of accident. It was a very frustrating because I kept thinking "Disney parks more cars then this every day at each of their parks without a problem, and we can't even move 10 feet." Finally gave up on the stadium parking and paid to park in a lot not too far away. The game was fun though, good seats for a minimum compared to Fenway Park. (And even Fenway in the city can keep traffic moving much better.) Just plan accordingly.

There must have been a big crowd at that game. We went to see a Red Sox - Rays game in August 2007 on a Monday night. We spent the day at Busch Gardens and left there at about 4:00PM. The only traffic problem was in Tampa on I-275 between the I-4 interchange and the bridge to St. Petersburg. From the bridge to Tropicana Stadium parking lot, there was no traffic. We pulled into the parking lot about 1 hour before the start of the game and parked the car close to the stadium. BTW, the parking was FREE! There's no such thing in Boston! When we left the game, we were out of the parking lot and on the highway in less than 15 minutes! Maybe it was because the attendance was only about 16,500 (with lots of Sox fans).

Yeah, I see that the Rays are off to a much better start this season, so hopefully Rays fans will show some support for their team. You Rays fans are lucky that tickets for Rays games are so easy to get. The last three Red Sox games that I've attended have been "on-the-road" (Tampa and Baltimore). We can't get tickets to Fenway (at a decent price). The whole 2008 season was sold-out before the season even started. We'll be heading down to Baltimore at the end of this month to see a couple of Red Sox games. I'd love to see a Red Sox-Rays game in the new stadium (if it's ever built). I have to admit, I don't particularly care to watch baseball indoors. The whole experience is totally different than a game played outdoors.

Just wondering. I'm a big Bruins fan. Is it easy to get tickets to Lightning games? I might consider going to a Bruins-Lightning game if I ever go to WDW during the hockey season.

We have never had trouble getting Lightning tickets either. I guess it might depend on the team they are playing, and if your ok with sitting anywhere.
