I just heard that there's a tamer version of MS.
Can anyone here describe it, who has done it? I mean, how can they do it? both versions at the same time? and if the spinning is taken out, whats left? I have never ridden it before... never wanted to... but maybe now I will if its worthwhile :confused3

and I apoligize if this has already been asked, I did try to do a search :confused3

They operate both versions at the same time.
There are 4 centrifuge setups, so they can easily separate the vehicles that SPIN and those that don't.
At the entrance of the attraction, guests choose which version they want to experience, and break into separate lines.
Depending on which side is busier, if your party splits here, its possible that one will be finished riding before the other, so plan where to meet on the other side.

Both "levels" of intensity are identical except on the "less intense" version, they don't power up the centrifuge (the means by which M:S created the extra "G forces" that certain guests found so distressing).

So once guests are loaded into the capsules, the less intense side plays virtually the same "video" on on the view-screens, the capsules "tilt" in sync with it (think of a musc smaller version of Star Tours), and guests still get to push the right buttons at the right time, and take the "trip" into space... all without the "extra G's".

MANY report they like the new version.

I still ride the original "full strength" version.
My DW takes the slow-boat side.

Robo - we shyed away from the ride too.

The tame side - you said does move around a bit.

Does it feel like a roller coaster ? Does it do jerky motions ?

Is the movement like Soarin ? Just a slight shift ?

Please elaborate more on the movement of the tamer side please.

:thanks:

yes my DH & 1 son has done the full thing. But if I'm going to do this tamer version I'll make my DH come with me :teeth: the first time anyway.... ;)
he can have his rougher ride after .... while I wait :bored:

It just tilts and "wiggles" some.
Soarin' and Star Tours tilt and "wiggle" some.

Everyone has their own level of tolerance (some are petrified with the idea of Soarin'), so I can't say if others would like it... but I have read lots of posts here from folks who do.

And lots of posts from guests who still prefer the original.

btw, I LOVE Soarin :thumbsup2 my very favorite!!
Star Tours, I won't do

now I'll just get extremely stressed thinking they'll 'accidently' make my vehicle spin :lmao:
so I'll stress anyway...till its over :teeth:

I have rode both sides, and enjoyed both. During my last visit, (last week of June) I rode the tamer version first....real nice ride, felt good, all the same experience as last year when I rode the original.....so off the ride, on to the other side to ride the original,,,, same feelng except for a little pressure in the face and very little pressure on the chest area. The ride is great either side for me, but actually I could hardly feel a difference . If you have never been on the ride, I would suggest starting out on the tamer side to get a feel for the ride.

I will probably have to go for the tame ride first because the wife may not be all that keen on the original ride, but, I shall definitely try the other when given the chance.

The guys on the WDW Today podcast nicknamed the no-spin version of M:S the "no-fun" version. Also, they said that instead of the line for the no-spin version being the "green" line, it should've been the "yellow" line. :rotfl:

Seriously, if you do a search you'll find comments from folks who've experienced the new version and like it very much. :thumbsup2
