Talked with Guide Today Told Me to Skip Poly

Just saying, did it cross anyone’s mind that maybe it was a conscious effort not to make 1 or 2 bed rooms because they did not want big families or lots of kids running around the Poly? It has crossed m mind that they wanted to keep the clientele more adult. We know they wanted to keep the money there. Not saying it right but it crossed my mind.

Have you seen the new volcano pool renovation which is in construction now? It looks more fun for kids than adults.

The logic of it all will unfold.

Based on the set up of the studios I think the opposite -- it is designed for families with 2 or 3 young children. If they wanted to attract mostly adults the studios would have a king bed plus a comfortable couch and a dresser and a whirlpool tub. The chosen design with little storage and lots of beds suggests their target audience is a family of five that spends lots of time in the parks and very little time in the room.

We have enjoyed over a dozen DVC vacations and never saw another family in the laundry room. Moreover, I have found the laundry rooms to be spotless. It has been my impression that they must be rarely used at AKV and VGF.

If someone is planning to use the PVB laundry room, I would doubt they would experience much competition for the machines.

Will the Studio's sleep 4 or 5? I haven't looked. I know next long trip we are looking into VWL to try to split our 2 kids up into separate beds. They can still do the sofa bed no problem now, but as they grow, an extra bed is nice.

This.

PVB is for thirtysomethings with 2 young children. A lifetime of memories year after year :wizard:

What I can't also understand, as I try to make sense of all this, is that the layout of the bungalows makes no sense.
One bedroom for two people, one bedroom for three (bed and murphy bed) and then the living room for three (pullout sofa and murphy bed).
To pay that much (in points, or in cash) to have people sleeping in the living room?
Nuts.

As to the laundry issue, we regularly book studios at BLT. We see plenty of folks in the laundry room. I think we'll end up doing our laundry there first, before we head to the Poly for a one or two-night look see.

It's amazing to me how Disney has managed to take a great idea, and then make it a mess. Where were the focus groups?

Five, they have the Murphy bed in the studios.

Really? We always book studios and have used the laundry room in BLT and VWL, especially in the summer, and found them to be fairly busy.

I can only speak to our experiences at AKV - Jambo House and VGF. I have not seen activity at those locations.

I was so excited when rumors of the Poly DVC started. I was ready to buy because I love the Poly. Now, I get to keep my money and dream about another resort. As a family of 4 with college aged kids, we get 2 bd units. When DH and I go, we stay in a 1 bd. I don't get the studio concept. I might as well get a regular hotel room. For the amount of the Poly, I might as well just pay OOP to stay in a hotel room. I can't imagine what Disney was thinking.

Yes, but at those resorts, many of the units are 1 & 2 BR and have washers & dryers in the units. I think a good number of DVCer's are used to doing laundry on vacation. And I'm imagining larger groups in connecting studios having to do laundry to compensate for minimal storage options. 360 studios sharing one laundry room seems woefully inadequate to me.

I am not looking forward to have Poly owners trade out to 1 and 2 bedrooms leaving only studios to trade into.

I agree with this. When Poly loyalists who don't really know about DVC look around and figure out that they can stay in larger units or stay longer at other resorts things may get sticky.

What I would like to know, does your guide care that you came here and quoted him?

This is exactly what I thought!! At least in a 2 bedroom villa you can get 3 actual beds. Plus, my kids are so tall they don't fit on those murphy beds any longer. It should read sleeps 6 adults (If two adults want to share the pull out) and 2 small children.

We may get 2 studios for a night just to try it out once, but I definitely won't be adding on there like I planned to.

Re: The laundry issue. I think many DVCers who book a studio will pack as if they're hotel room guests, and not utilize the laundry. I pack very differently when I stay in a 1BR than when I stay in a studio.

I was entertaining a small add on at PVB and called my guide who I have a good relationship with to pick his brain. He sounded like many on this board in recent days in regard to his disappointment in the product.

Some of what he said:

1) Point chart for the bungalows "is nuts"

2) The extra square footage in the poly rooms was mostly put in the bathrooms. He said the bathrooms are huge, but felt the floor plan could have been designed better with a smaller bathroom(it would still be a double and large) and putting in a closet with a stacked W/D.(I agree)

3) Felt 7 month booking window would not be a problem with the amount of studios.

And here is a bonus....Only one of the buildings is going to have laundry facilities, with DVC owners in the other buildings walking to that building to do their laundry

He suggested If I was to add on to buy more VGF.

So here is what we got. Lots of studios, no 1 bedrooms, crazy point chart for bungalows, walking to other building to do laundry. I think I will pass!!!

I think I am going to go with the strategy many on this board have suggested. I have my 200 points at BWV, 200 at VGF; a add on at SSR with some inexpensive points to help get those expensive VGF 1 bedrooms that don't seem to be difficult to get at 7 months most of the year, while using my VGF 11 month advantage to do the studios.pirate:

imo a plus, many members book nothing but studios, which tend to book quickly, especially at popular resorts/times.

OP - if your guide knows you prefer 1 BR units, then he gave you good advice in that regard.

he also tried to direct you to VGF to 'save the sale'. As posted earlier, can't help but wonder if there is a sales bonus for the agents.

if I were your guide's sales manager, would strongly advise him to brush up a bit on technique, Terming the point chart 'crazy' isn't professional or positive & reflects badly on the brand.
