Talk with my Guide and Random Notes

Just Curious......
This may be a little off topic...but not really. Back when DVC was selling HH and VB were those resorts marketed in such a way that the purchasers bought with every intention of using their points at WDW instead of the other resorts ?? I'm sure this subject has been covered before but reading this thread got me wondering about this. I wasn't a DVC member back then so I really don't remember much about it.
Thanks!

We went through a different resale broker on each of our BWV contracts, both purchased since March of this year. We specifically asked both resellers whether they would recommend buying a contract at Vero, HH, and even OKW knowing that we could not book until the 7-month window. The answer from one of them was that people did it all the time (which is probably true) and had no trouble booking the other resorts at 7 months. My point is that I don't just think this sales "technique" is limited to the Guides; rather it's a great-sounding selling point for ANYONE who's trying to sell you a contract!

DVC has always been sold as joining DVC -- not buying a particular resort with the ability to trade. Many people felt the sky was falling when HH and VB opened and new owners said they planned to use the majority of their points at WDW. The sky is still up there.

DVC has seemed able to fold the additional resorts into the program without too much of a ripple. They did float the idea of taking the "home resort" advantage down to 1 month (which they can do). This would make it even more of a "DVC program" rather than buying a resort that you will trade out of.

We only have incidental evidence of people being able to book what they want. Overall, I think most people come away satisfied with their reservations.

We bought DVC points about two years ago after learning about the whole concept while on a Disney cruise. We knew nothing about these boards or resale options, etc. Our choices at the time were VB, HH and BCV, with I think a 5$ a point rebate at HH and $10 a point at VB for giving back that year's points. We chose VB because the lower cost would allow us to buy more points, and we went into it knowing we would need to be more flexible on WDW resorts because we were limited to the 7-month window.

Knowing what I know now, would I do the same? I'm not sure, but it would give me more to think about. Our guide certainly made it clear we could book any resort, but that the 7-month limitation might be an issue particularly at popular times of the year.

So panfan, I'd have to say we're DVC members who plan to use our VB points at WDW, at least for now. I haven't seen as many VB and HH owners on DIS yet, so I'm not sure if I'm typical or not.
