Was thinking of lunch at yak and yeti .. any feedback? Did the kids enjoy?

We had a wonderful late lunch early dinner at Y&Y, loved the entrees but didnt like the appies or desserts at all. The mixed drinks are fantastic!

DH and I went for the first time on 12/16 at 1 pm and shared a meal. Y&Y was one of my Top 2 favorite meals of our trip! We had the potstickers, salmon entree, and fried wontons. The salmon had a fishy smell, which was a bit off-putting, but it didn't taste fishy. That was my only complaint. Everything else was wonderful, the restaurant was inviting and incredibly clean, and our server Adam was great. I am definitely going back, and next time will order the ribs, which I hear are the best thing on the menu.

I really enjoy Yak & Yeti. They have very good food. The last time I went there I got the shoaxing (sp?) steak and tempura shrimp combo. I'll tell you that their tempura shrimp is not tempura but rather fried shrimp. Anyhow, the meals have always been great and their steak was fabulous.

We love the lettuce cups, fried green beans and honey chicken, among others.
Great restaurant!

If you go, you absolutely have to try the Berry Cherry Limeade! It's Cherry and Lime juice with Sprite and it is amazing, I just hate that it isn't free refills!

One of our best meals (lunch) at WDW. The appetizers and entrees were delicious. And great draft beer - try the Safari Amber made exlusively for Animal Kingdom. Great Service. Interesting decor to look at. In Asia.

We went on a day when there was extra magic evening hours.... with the extra hours, we had no problem taking time out for a nice meal and still doing everything we wanted at Animal Kingdom in 1 day.

We ate there last May and loved the place. The layout and theming is cool. You feel like you're in a run down but well loved building in Tibet or India. We both had the pho and LOVED IT. That's why we're going back. This time we're going with the kids who want to try their dumplings:goodvibes

There are very few places to sit down and have a tasty meal in AK. There is also a lot of walking in this park so a sit down meal is a good thing to plan on.

I guess I'm the odd man out.

I didn't like Y&Y at all. It reminded me of "American" Chinese food. The sauces were cloyingly sweet with no real direction or flavor. If I remember correctly I had the honey chicken.

I guess the only way to judge is to eat there yourself. No matter, I hope you have a great vacation!

We were there in September, and it was one of our least favorite meals of the trip. Nothing terrible, but nothing special either. We all enjoyed our appetizers. I had the crispy honey chicken entree, which I couldn't eat more than a bite or two of because it was the exact opposite of crispy. DH and DD thought their entrees were OK. Very similar to what we can get at local Chinese places around here or at the Chinese buffet. Desserts were OK, again nothing special. It's one of those places I'd give a second try, but it's not at all on our must do list.

We enjoyed the food however the service was the worst we have had at Disney. It was painfully slow, and there were VERY few customers at the time. Our waitress kept disappearing. It took about 2 hrs for our meal. We will not be returning, however we still enjoy Y&Y counter service as an alternative!

Hope this helps

My family and I all hated it, but it seems to me that the reviews have improved since our trip (it was our 2008 trip)...I found the food to be very low quality, similar to the chinese food I would pick up at our local grocery store...the beef and broccoli was slimy and gross textured, the shrimp that came with the steak&shrimp combo was fried, but had a stale mushy texture to the batter. They one thing that could have saved the dinner was the dessert, cream cheese wontons with grilled pineapple....but it was served lukewarm, if that....

Bad meal. But based on things that I have read I'l likely at least try it for lunch again at some point....but am in no particular rush to do so.

Oops....I opened the floodgates. :lmao:

Our group loved it!! We like finer dining (no buffets, no character meals, no 50s' prime time hokeyness) and were pleasantly surprised, the kids loved the noodle dishes as something different from the standard kids fare of disney, and they had applesauce which was hard to come by at disney! Definitely will return next year.

I love it there. We had the pot stickers and mussels for apps, i had the steak and shrimp, not sure what my bff had and we shared the brownie sundae for dessert. It was all delicious!

Not really. I always feel "uncomfortable" posting my real thoughts because everyone seems to LOVE it. But we definately didn't love it.
We had a really bad meal there. I had the honey chicken it is was cold hard bits of chicken nuggest swimming in a really icky sweet sauce, DH has some beef dish and the meat was chewy (ick). I can't remember what the kids had but I know the fries that came with them were cold and hard...DS5 said they were "sticks". And the service was terrible. Clearly our server had better places to be...:rolleyes1
All that being said we have seen better reviews for it and are considering giving it another try in Aug. I want to try the ribs. :confused3

I had the fried green beens for an app and the Honey Chicken for my entrée. Both were excellent, as was the service. We went for lunch and I would really recommend this restaurant. I wish the AK had a few more sit down places within the park.

Other nice facts - depending on when you get there for lunch you can request an upstairs table by the window and watch the afternoon parade. Also, if you don't have a reservation, you can always try to get a seat at the bar. The only downfall to that space is that's where everyone stands while waiting to sit down. But if you like all the excitement - it may be an option as well. :thumbsup2

We love Y&Y's! The biggest problem with Y&Y is that its in Animal Kingdom and we usually get done there in one day. It may be American Chinese food, but luckily I'm American, so I like it. I also love Flame Tree BBQ so its a hard choice. Haven't eaten at Tusker house yet but there's no way I could fit them all in :)

I never discount that there could be something else on the menu that I might like. But, I think each restaurant has a style or a "flavor" if you will. My impression of Yak and Yeti was that it was trying to appeal to a Americanized palate..something I simply didn't care for. I won't be giving it a second chance.
