Talk to me about DAS...

DW has a knee that is swollen. It hurts her to walk even a little bit. On our last trip, I pushed her around EPCOT in a wheelchair (big mistake) and then we got to HS early enough to get an ECV. Since we did not plan for it, we just saddled up to the line and the CM asked if she could transfer (she can, but again it's painful for her to walk even short distances) and directed us accordingly.

This trip in addition to that, I am having some foot issues that make it painful to walk distances. I can handle short walks (so transferring for me is no issue). But I can't really walk or stand for an extended time. So this time we bit the bullet and got 2 ECV rentals for the week. (I apologize in advance if we are on any buses with any of you. I don't want to be the ECV on the bus and now we have 2 and I know how they feel). We are hoping both are temporary issues and the doctors can fix us!

Question 1: Has anyone had 2 ECV's in a studio? Will they fit? We are at AKL this trip.

Question 2: Talk to me about DAS. First of all from the description above, would we even qualify for DAS? Not interested in "gaming" the system. If these things are not appropriate for DAS, just tell me. If either does qualify, how is it different from just going up to the CM and doing whatever they direct you to? I know (I think I do) that Disney doesn't need a doctors pass, but will DAS make any difference in this case? Or would we just be wasting both Disney and our time and it's functionally the same as walking up to the line?

Finally, if we SHOULD get DAS, can we pre-register? Can we get it at AKV the night before we go to the park? Or is it something we have to get every morning at the park? If the later, is it worth it given what I have described vs just going up the CM at the line entrance?

Thanks my peeps!

What you are describing is a mobility issue and a DAS is not used for mobility issues. They will recommend you use a wheelchair, ECV, or other mobility device.

You will still have to walk around the park and through the Lightning Lane so it won’t save you much walking, just some standing. And there are not many places to sit and rest outside of while eating in a restaurant unless you are ok with curbs or the ground.

We have squeezed two scooters in the studio. It worked but was tight, but we were fine with it.

If you are on scooters, and it meets your needs, then DAS would not be needed as that help in your situation.

But, you can always ask them when you arrive,, explain your situation, and they will let you know if it fits.

In terms of scooters, we use Scooterbug and it’s great. Get the DVC discount, and it’s there at the resort when we arrive. No needing to be there. And we just paid only $92 for e day rental!

Thank you for explaining it! I won't bother with DAS then. I know a scooter works for DW as we did an in-park at HS and it helped her a lot.

Yup - we have then reserved with scooterbug. I originally was looking at a different company because they had the star wars ECV's, but they would have required us to be there to accept the scooter. Since Disney has an exclusive with scooterbug, that's who we are using.
