I've been reading the restaurant reviews board for a few weeks now and I haven't run across very many reviews about Chefs de France. I know that it has received mixed reviews, but it's somewhere that DH & I wanted to try, so we're sticking with it.

So, here are some questions I have, and I will appreciate any review/opinion you may have (please try to keep them positive). We will be on the DDP.

  1. Which dessert did you enjoy the most? I tend to automatically default to anything chocolate, but if there is something else that is better, then we'll give it a try! And yes, I always think about dessert first! ;)
  2. Is there a dish (or dishes) that is more of a signature meal for them, besides the escargot  ? Something that would say France more than others? (Disclaimer: I never order chicken when eating out - I make it so much at home that I want to eat beef or seafood instead!)
  3. I'm thinking about ordering the salmon. It just sounds devine. Any thoughts? (I love seafood, and since my kids adore salmon, they could also eat from my plate if they want.)
  4. I love the onion soup, but is it good enough to get, or should I experiment with something else for the appetizer? like the goat cheese salad or the cheese plate?

Thanks in advance!

I had a lunch there - salad, croque monsieur, onion soup and creme brulee. It was fabulous. So, I can tell you that it is a nice casual, elegant place with wonderful service and that the onion soup *is* worth getting, but I can't help with the other choices. The creme brulee was excellent, but I am a creme brulee conoisseur - it is my *favorite* dessert of all time, so I am biased. I hope others will be able to give you some more info.

Good question. I'm trying to argue my point defending Chefs De France to my mother.

I'll comment on the things I've had.

Tarte a la Flamme Alsacienne - Alsace specialty. Flatbread baked with cream fraiche, onion and bacon $8.50

Absolutely delicious!!! Well worth the trip, tastes way better than it sounds. (Leftovers make a great breakfast)

Tartare de saumon legerement fume, sauce moutarde - Tartare of raw salmon lightly smoked with cucumber dill and honey mustard sauce $10.50

Another winner. As good/better than other restaurants.

Assiette Campagnarde - rustic assortment of French pates, and charcuteries $9.75

Not a favorite. Very chunky pate and some pickles

Bisque de Homard - Lobster bisque $6.25
A little watery and not as "seafoody" for me.

Soupe a l'oignon gratinee - the classic onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese - $5.95

Excellent. My husband orders this every trip.

Lasagnes de legumes du soleil a l'huile d'olive au thym - zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, onions and tomato baked into thin layers of pasta - $16.95

Tasty but not a large portion.

Gratin de macaroni - Baked macaroni with cream and gruyere cheese $16.95

NOT Kraft!!! If my husband doesn't get the chicken he will get this. Absolutely fabulous!

Jarret d'agneau printanier - lamb shank with turnips, carrots, lima beans and pearl pasta $24.95

Small portion. Vegtables were underdone for my taste.

Demi poulet fermier a la broche, pommes puree au basilic et tomate braisee - Half of a farm raised rotisserie chicken, basil-flavored mashed potatoes and braised tomato $23.95

My husbands usual. Happened to have it in Paris. Almost the same, except the one in Paris was dryer:headache:

Filet de boeuf grille, sauce au poivre noir Gratin Dauphinois et haricots verts - Grilled tenderloin of beef with a black pepper sauce original potato gratin of Savoy and green beans $28.95

My usual and very goood. I've noticed the portions on this have gotten smaller so I'm not happy

Creme Brulee - Vanilla Creme Brulee served with a Madeleine

My husband gets this every trip and it is one of the best he's had.

All of the other desserts I would get elsewhere.

These are just my opinions.

Poor service...and it wasn't just at my table from the looks of it. Also, chicken was nothing special nor was the short rib. The onion soup and the escargot were EXCELLENT. I would go back just for the soup!! Definitely worth getting. Creme brulee dessert was good...doesn't really do much for me.

I'm sorry to say but it was a big disappointment. First, even though we had ADRs it was a REALLY long wait for a table, perhaps 45 minutes? THen we had poor service from a somewhat grouchy french waiter. The maincourses we had, which I can't remember were nothing special. It was also loud and crowded. HOWEVER, the dessers were WONDERFUL - I believe that I had some kind of sampler plate with an assortment of little desserts.

I'd go again if nothing else was available but it's not among my first choices.

You have talked me into getting the onion soup! Thanks for all of your comments so far. I'll have to show this to DH so he can decide what to eat, although he's also the type to glance at a menu and choose after about one minute. Me, it takes me, well, months!!! But that's part of the fun.

No one so far has had the salmon? Anyone?

Yes I had the salmon and it was to die for!!!

Filet de Saumon sur lit de pommes de terr ecrasees a l'anciennne, sauce vierge -
Seared salmon on a bed of smashed yukon potatoes, olive oil, lime and fresh herbs

I'm not a big "smashed" potatoe eater but the salmon was on top of the potatoes and with the olive oil/lime, etc it gave them fantastic flavour.

We love Chef's and DS9 declared it his favourite Epcot restaurant.

We actually went twice in March because we had such a great meal the first time.

The French Onion soup is excellent!! DS had the Mac and Cheese and it's huge so you can easily share it.

I had : Assiette Campagnarde - rustic assortment of French pates and sliced meats $9.25 (appetizer) and soup our second visit and enjoyed every bite.

We aren't dessert people, but since we were on the DDP we ordered. Everything we had was fantastic!

Chef's is our favourite restaurant to visit each time we go to Disney!

Yes I had the salmon and it was to die for!!!

Now, that's what I wanted to hear! Yay!

I feel like I've been waiting around for my "enabler" to show up and tell me it was okay to order the salmon! :rotfl2: I can take or leave the potatoes, but the rest did sound devine! Thanks for the review...
