Talk to me about backpacks

I am wondering what kind of backpack, messenger bag, or other shoulder bag you carry with you to WDW or on the cruise? Is there any particular bag that you find works really well?
We have taken just a plain old school bookbag with us to WDW, and it works fine, but it seems to be a PITA when the items inside get all mixed up which makes it hard to find something.

TIA!

I'm not sure if you are asking what I use for a carry on for the flights and boarding or what I use on the ship. Bottom line, on the ship I don't use anything. I have my KTTW in a lanyard around my neck or in my pocket. Anything else I need is in my stateroom. For excursions without swimming, I have a "fanny pack" that allows me to keep my hands free but is very little weight or bulk.

For Castaway or excursions with swimming, I have a rather large bag that will hold a couple towels and all my junk. It is canvas, very light weight, and folds up well in a suitcase so it doesn't take luggage space.

For my carry on...don't laugh....I still have my Land's End washable diaper bag from when DD was a baby. I love the multiple zippered compartments. One small spot has always been my place for my keys. One zippered area is my "important stuff" passport case, wallet, cruise documents, etc. The big zippered area is my "all the junk I need" area. It has handles and a shoulder strap, fits between the seats in my van, and I know where everything is.

Okay, I hate to ask, but will fanny packs make us look like Geeky McGeek tourists? We have fanny packs that we sometimes use (because we can cover them with our shirts or jackets) at Disney or at our local amusement parks.

Would using them on the islands immediately single us out as eager tourists?

Yes! :rotfl:

I don't particularly care what I look like....the fanny pack is small--holds my necessary documents, credit card, camera and keeps my hands free. I wear it in front where it is less likely to be "disturbed."

ha!
I always think fanny packs are geeky!

I was thinking more about what bag I should carry in WDW, and I found a great thread about bags over there that was really helpful.

I decided to purchase the baggallini messenger bag for our time in the parks, then will probably just carry my kttw while on the ship!

thanks for all the responses!

I try not to carry anything if at all possible. I have a small wallet where I put a $20, a credit card, my ID and park tickets if at WDW. I usually lock my purse or its contents in the room safe for the duration of my cruise/WDW Stay. I carry my wallet and cell phone in my pocket and I don't have to worry about a purse or bag getting lost or stolen.

We have a 3 yr old, so we will have to carry things like sunscreen, water, pull-up, maybe a change of clothes for her, etc. Plus, I always have items for those you-never-know scenarios. Like a poncho in case it rains. Most of the time, it doesn't... but, you never know! LOL

With 2 kids, I always have a backpack for our trips, whether it's WDW or a local outing. I like sturdier ones than regular school backpacks, ones that have a cushioned back "plate" (for lack of a better word). This makes a huge difference in the support from carrying it all day.

I also like one that has different pockets so I can easily find things while on the move...my newest favorite is a Tony Hawk packpack that I had gotten for DS for school (on sale at Kohl's) and he decided he wanted a Red Sox one instead...I was ready to return it when I decided to try it out and loved it!

For the parks I use a half-size backpack so I can have sunscreen, camera, cell phone, and small wallet.

On the boat I either use a lanyard for my KTTW card and ID or stick them in my pocket if I have one, and I carry my camera in the evening for pics at dinner.
