We are going at the end of may in 2019. We will be going to universal for 4 days. That is the only trip we plan to take within a year since our other trip will be a cruise.

For only 4 days, would there be any value in getting an annual pass?

Does universal offer room discounts for ap holders?

Does universal offer food discounts for ap holders?

How about merchandise discounts?

There are hotel discounts as well, which may be available depending on date - however they don't become available until a few months beforehand.

Either way, you'd only need one person to have an annual pass to reap the benefits (discounts or hotel rates).

Compare flat ticket prices to the seasonal pass, as you shouldn't have blockout dates in May (note the seasonal pass gives the AP hotel rates if available but doesn't provide food / merchandise discounts).

Can you go back prior to your 2019 dates? I get annual passes to parks and go at like 11 months and 15 days or so after the first trip. Then you get 2 vacations for the price of one ticket-wise.
