I have been researching this for a while now, and still don't have all of the answers. We stayed at SSR a couple of weeks ago, and it was great. I want to buy into this, at SSR, fairly minimally though. I want to buy the minimum points, which is what, 150? Are there any special deals going on right now?
This is quoted from the DVC website:
"And, for a limited time, you can apply a credit of up to $1,600 or more toward the cost of your Membership when you purchase a real estate interest in Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort."
What does that mean? For two people who love Disney and plan on vacationing there once every two years, is this the thing to do? Give me an idea of some monthly payments based on 150 points, including the yearly maintenence fees. I want to get as many answers as I can before call to talk with a representitive.
Want to go in on this with my girlfriend/one day fiancee/future wife.
Thanks for the help!

I think you need to buy 160 points (so you can do exchanges to II)

current price is $16,640 so $104 per point.
the maintence point cost (2007) is $4.12 per point - so $659.20 for 160 points.

I think also as a new member you might have closing costs.

I don't know about a joint membership unless you are married.

For 160 points with 10% down, I think you'd be looking at right under $200 per month if you finance through Disney. Plus you're MF could be paid monthly or yearly too. You may be able to do financing as a joint thing. We financed our home together before we were married and never had a problem. Good luck!

For SSR I would buy resale. There is NO reason to pay $104 for a DVC property right now. SSR contracts are going in the $85 per point range. AKV is really only available direct from DVC right now due to the newness.

I agree. The only way I would buy SSR direct from Disney at this point is if they have a fantastic incentive or you have bad credit and need their financing (since they will pretty much finance anyone). There are a lot of SSR contracts out there on the resale market.

I believe the $1600 credit is a $10 off per point incentive.

Current price is $104/point with a 160 point minimum purchase.

160 times $10 = $1600. In other words Disney gives a credit which results in your final price at $94/point.

You will also get current year's points. Thus if you purchase for example an August Use Year month, you would get 2006 use year points now, and your 2007 Use Year points on August 1st.

Finally, Disney pays part of the closing costs, and they will prorate the dues for the remainder of the year.

Disney will also finance, but you'd be better off with a home equity loan at a much lower rate.

If you propose to her while at SSR on your next trip, she'll HAVE to let you buy there. Just read another thread about a man who did that b/c he was such a big Disney fan and wanted a little extra insurance that there'd be future trips!! He proposed at WL, and they bought at VWL!!!

iUnless you find a contract with the 2006 banked as you will not be able to bank them through reslae and the seller is willing to pick up part of the 2006 maint. fees and part of the closing you are better off buying through disney. If you buy through Dinsey you get the 2006 and 2007 points you can bank the 2006 points and you will really only be paying the part maint for this year whic so if you buy on July 1st your MT. for the 2007 points would be around 330 and you can bank these points or rent them if you rented them you could have an additional 1,600 and your closing costs would be around 300. if you buy resale you will most likely not have teh 2006 points if you do you will ned to pay the MT of around 640 (last yeras price) plus the maint for this year of about 660 plus around 600 for closing so assuming this 2006 and 2007 points you will pay 1900/160 =11.87 a point plus the 85 is 96.87 a point through resale if you buy through Disney it is 330/160=2.06 plus 94 which is 96.06 a point now this assumes you find a contract with banked points and if you do I woudl imagione you will not get the seller to pay last years MT or closing if you did you may make out a few dollars better otherwise I would go with Disney and you get the points a lot faster.
If you wanted a 150 point contrcat a
nd only wanted the 2007 points you can save a few dollars up front (and I would negotiate a lot with closing and MT fees) but you really do not make out any better buying a SSR resale, with all considered it will be a few hundred dollars in either direction.

Basically, If you purchase 160pts. They give you credit for $10 off per point up to 160. So if you were to buy 150pts, they would charge you $94/pt instead of $104.

I just recently added on at SSR.

Unless you are married I would not be buying into this together, period. You may both love Disney vacations now but what about in 5, 10, 15+ years?

Buy points for yourself if you wish.
