Talk Disney Visa with me!

DH and I both have the Disney Visa, and have since Day 1. He uses a coulpe of different reward cards, but I use the DV exclusively for anything I can.
I keep prodding him to get the Premier, since he buys almost all of the gasoline and groceries.

We save up the rewards, and use them in larger blocks. We've paid for our room a couple of times, and almost always have enough extra to drop onto a gift card (where they won't expire) and use for all of our dining.

<snip>... Our tickets are bought through Undercover Tourist, so it isn't a Disney buy...
But unlike tickets bought directly through Disney, the UT tickets do accrue rewards

I have had the Disney visa since it was first offered and upgraded to the premiere card 2 years ago when they offered 5x for the first 90 days as that coincided with paying off our Disney cruise. The premiere card Is $49 per year but also gives 2% on restaurant, gas and groceries with 1% on everything else. This is our primary card and we use it for everything and pay it off each month. I had planned on going back to regular Disney visa after the first year once I had to pay the annual fee, but the extra percentage I get more than covers the fee.

I love the 6 month free financing on Disney vacations, that is my favorite perk and the points are our extra savings plan for our trips. They help pay for our excursions on DCL and the dining plan at WDW.

Are you aware that you can pre pay for excursions & onboard spending in the form of an OBC to yourself and it will also qualify for 0% for 6 months? Also you can prepay gratuities close to your sail date and they'll qualify too. (Unsure of exact deadline to prepay. 10 days maybe?)

Also when we want to book hard to get excursions/Palo asap (our window is 120 days prior) and we can't start booking online until the cruise is paid in full, I pay only the cruise fare. Then I wait until around 2 weeks before the sail date then add an OBC, gratuities, & DCL transfers to start a new 6 month window for those costs. Again, I'm not sure of the exact deadline to add transfers or OBC but my TA takes care of it. 10-14 days is approximate.
Really, there's no benefit to paying all of these extra things at the same time as making a final payment on cruise fare.

Otherwise, paying for your onboard account with card the usual way, where they bill your purchases throughout the cruise, doesn't qualify for 0%.

I really like that I can rebook onboard and have 6 mos to pay the deposit. We usually book 18-24 months in advance so it's nice to not have to put out for our next trip so far in advance. :goodvibes

I hope I'm making sense. :rotfl::hyper2:

:boat: :sail: = :cloud9:

thanks for the tip on prepaying the OBC and having it qualify, but honestly, between our OBC from booking onboard and Dreams Unlimited, plus the Disney points, we don't spend much over that (including gratiuties!).

Not sure if you know this, but Disney just changed the onboard booking rules again. You have to sail within 18 months of the sailing date where you booked it on board now and there are a LOT of blackout dates. check out the cruise thread for details on the blackout dates.

Yes, I did read that. Thanks!

Hi all!

I'm looking for some first hand info from any Disney Visa holders. I'm contemplating opening a card but don't know if its worth taking on another credit card for the savings.

I usually travel to Disney one to two times a year and charge the whole trip on my credit card, airfare included. I'm contemplating getting the Disney Visa to start putting my trips on though I probably wouldn't charge anything else on it as I already have a cash back card that I use for cash, groceries, etc.

What sort of in-park benefits do Disney Visa holders get? I thought I heard they get to register early for runDisney events- is this true?

I know that spending and credit card useful varies between person but I'm just looking for some thoughts on how its worked for you!

We have it. Total waste of plastic. You can do much better with another % paying card.

I have the Disney Premiere. Got it last Feb, 2013 when they gave us the $200. for opening. I called this month wanting to change to regular Disney Visa with no fees. I was told I could not change until my year was up. I do not want them to charge me the fee again. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks for any help or info on this.

They told me the month that I'd be charged the renewal fee, and called before the billing date to downgrade back to the regular card, no problem.

They said my fee would be charged 3/2 so I've put on my reminders to call mid to late Feb. Thanks

Besides it being a cute card and getting some compliments, I got it for the $200 reward and since I bank with Chase I can view and pay my statement while doing online banking. Thinking of downgrading so not to pay the annual fee and since I'm DVC trying to earn for dining but not seeing a big return as long as I've been using it so trying to use my Costco Amex and airline card more instead!

I have the non-premier card. Got it for the $200 bonus and the 0% financing for vacations. It's ok. I don't use credit cards that often but when I do, I usually put everything on my Delta AmEx. I was really hoping that my statement would include the friends and family referral offer though, because I have a friend who is just starting to think about bringing her son in a few years and could probably use the bonus dollars. And I could always use the extra $50. :)

I have the premier visa. The points can add up quickly. We go annually to WDW and use my reward points for meals. The double rewards for me made it worrhwhile.

I got the premier. I like that I can use the points for disney or air tickets. I also loved the free Epcot character meet and greet with free photo. We did it on our last day and regretted it b/c I found out we could have done it everyday and gotten a really nice photo print for free every day.

I also heard, during the holidays, they had a free rest area for disney card holders with a charging station for all your electronics- sounds nice!

There is a new offer available where you can get a $200 Disney gift card after you spend $500 in the first 3 months. This would be for the standard Disney Rewards Visa w/no annual fee. A referral code is required (which is not allowed on the DISboards), so check with any family or friends that might have the card, but don't ask here.

Quick question: My husband and I both signed up for the Disney Visa today. Once we fulfill the requirements and receive the two $200 gift cards, can we use them for Disney World park tickets? Thank you for any info!

We just used our Disney points rewards card to purchase 2, 10 day adult passes; 2, 3 day adult passes; the Memory Maker photo card; and parking for every day at the parks. We were able to call Visa right from Magic Kingdom's gate and purchase the tickets second later. It took all of about 5 mins waiting in line @ guest services and then another 5 mins waiting in the ticket sales line, all done on Christmas Eve this year. Very easy, painless process

I always pay in full and have no mortgage and pay cash for cars so am absolutely debt free. Two years ago when we bought our new car I had the sales guy figure out what my interest would be b/c I was curious of the credit score - he told me it was 1.97 interest rate and had never saw an interest rate so low for a customer - said my credit was outstanding. so I took this as a sign that my open/close must be ok since I pay in full etc.
I play the same game, but you should be careful. 1.97% is a good interest rate on a new car, but zero percent is better and attainable. You're like me and pay cash for my cars. So right now with interest rates where they, the cash incentives are the best bet. I always try to keep my credit score at 850, but I've seen the effects of opening and closing credit cards and they can bring your score down, but not by much.
With that said, I only keep the DV card for the promos. Other than that it's a bad return in the way of rewards. The Capital One Quick Silver card is 1.5% on everything with no cap.

We've been cardholders since day 1. We upgraded to the premier when it became available. The extra rewards dollars more than makes up for the annual fee. Last June, we used 2-1/2 years' worth of reward dollars to pay for a 4 night package at Disneyland. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and park hoppers. All we had to pay out of pocket was food and the extra charge for staying concierge. That was a first for us and a bucket list dream for me!

We have used our Disney Visa for a special character meet and greet with photo, and also special Disney pins for cardholders. Other than that, we don't really use the card for 'rewards' because it's such a small amount that you get in my opinion. I'd rather use my other cards that have better benefits. Since it has no annual fee though (my card is not a Premier), I keep it for the two above things I named
