We (me, wife, girls 12/13) will be going on the Disney Dream this October for a 4 night cruise. We are debating getting the cruise length photo package or not. From what I recall when on last Disney cruises, if you want to take your own photos with characters, you could not stand in front of the Shutters photographers. Is they true or am I misremembering? $200 for 4 nights is a lot of money so just wanted to see what others thought.

We've taken plenty of our own pics.. Pre-covid a CM would also take pics with your camera/phone for you.

From our Wish cruise a few weeks ago, they definitely let us take our own photos, or took photos for us on our own phones. Usually, they would take some with the professional camera first, then step back and let us take ours!

I paid for pictures on our cruise to Alaska in June, so I wasn’t going to pay in July in the Caribbean. I had no issues with the photographers letting me take pictures on my own after they took theirs.

Last time I cruised, like 6-7 yrs ago ….CM also took a picture for us with our own camera/smartphone. Is this still happening or now prohibited due to covid?

You definitely can take your own pictures but let the photographer take his first. It doesn’t cost anything…lol

If you want in the picture you can have a picture taken by the handler of who ever is out. That said the photographed will not use your phone etc to take a family photo Since there is no handler out when doing these and backgrounds.

Thank you so much!
So when character is out, I can ask CM who accompanies the character to take family photo.
That’s good coz I was debating if I should get photo package but at least I can get some family photo with my phone, then I will skip the photo package.

Yes you can still get the background ones done and see how they turn out. It is pretty expensive though , to get one 8x10 is $20.00.

They don’t print them any more you check the at a few kiosks they have. If you pay to get one printed you pick it up . We have done the package when the kids were small you can really end up with hundreds of pictures …lol

Great info! Thank you so much 😊
Knowing me….as soon as I see the pictures they take, I probably ended up wanting all 😂

So it’s really ended up with hundreds of pictures?? My kid is 4…I just couldn’t remember that photographers took that many when I went last time…but maybe because it was only adults.

You just have to go to all the pictures opportunities. They also take some in the restaurants , all the characters in different outfits, pirate night..lol oh and if you go to Castaway there is pictures there too.

If you buy the package you want to get your moneys worth.

Ah I see, and interesting to know they take pictures in restaurants! Do they also take pictures in kids club? As we cannot see what they do unless it’s open house, it would be so cool to have those moments in pictures.

I know pre-ordering saves a bit of money, but I think I will wait and check the actual pictures they take.

Yes the characters do show up in younger kids club. You have to watch the navigatior It will tell you what is going on and if you want to take them there for different things.

Make sure you go check the club out when you board it’s open house ,all the spaces are so wander the ship…lol

Great to know, thank you so much!

Oh yes we will go check the club out during open house. I only saw it on YouTube and stuff and looks sooooo fun! Like I wish I was kid and could go lol.

We preordered, assuming we'd take tons of pics, and ended up with about 25. Only 1 was better than the one I snapped with my phone so I had them refund the package and bought just the 1 picture.

Picture lines were long, and he was 2, so we focused on the most important characters for him and skipped the posed pics in front of backdrops (they aren't my style anyways). They came through and took pictures at 1 restaurant (first night) and at Palo.

Oh! So you can cancel the preorder package once you are on board? That might be a good idea…just add the package and decide to keep or cancel after seeing pictures.

I don’t think I’m gonna like backdrops either especially there are lots of great photo locations throughout the ships.

I went on an 8 night cruise with just me and my 3 yr. Old. (We left DH at home). I bought the photo package figuring I’d cancel on board if I didn’t like the pictures. In 8 nights we took 394 pictures!! We could have taken more but DD some nights was wanting to take pictures and other nights completely against it. The majority of our pictures are character interactions.

The CMs will take pictures with your phone. I took pictures at the same time as the photographers did for some of the meet and greets and the photographers photos were way better quality than mine. Their cameras just had better lighting and made the photos just look better.

It was definitely expensive to buy the photo package for 8 nights but I’m glad I did. I have no idea what I’m gonna do with so many photos (maybe make a photo book) but there were enough photos that I would have wanted to buy without the package that really made it worth it.
