Has anyone ever taken a train from New Jersey to Orlando? My dad really doesn't want to fly, so I wanted to see if this was an option.

I'm grateful for any information....

train names (Amtrak, etc.)
station locations (we are near Atlantic City) in NJ and FL
how long does it take?
how much does it cost?

TIA!

Try http://www.mousesavers.com/train.html#wdw for some basic info.

My parents took Amtrak from Newark to Orlando in May of 2000. It took nearly 24 hours and their train was delayed a bit in both directions. I believe it was because freight trains also use the tracks in some areas, and they get preference so the Amtrak train may need to sit and wait at times.

My mother does not fly so this was the only option for her (we flew and she was not going to drive). They thought it was reasonably comfortable though they did not sleep much.

The Amtrak route goes through Newark, then I believe it stops in MetroPark in Iselin, then Trenton, then Philadelphia. From Atlantic City area, I assume you'd have to get the train in Trenton or Philly.

You can get off in Orlando or Kissimmee (if I remember correctly). They got off in Orlando and Tiffany Towncar brought them to BWV where we were staying. They were pleased with the towncar service in both directions.

:D Hi check out this thread! www.disboards.com/showthread.php?=&threadid=616977 I had questions also! My father in law did not want to drive so he finally convinced us to take the train. I had bought the tickets 3 adults and 2 kids with AAA it came out to 695.00. After I purchased the tickets I had found some old threads and they SCARED me!:D But with the great responses from other posters I am looking forward to it! Also I found out that the Trenton station is a un-staffed station. Meaning that you cant check baggage! I had our reservations for the Trenton station and I asked the ticket agent when we needed to be there to check our bags, and he said you cant check bags at that station! I am glad I asked that question!! So we will be leaving from the Philly station. Enjoy your trip!!:D

I went from Newark to Orlando in Nov 02. Going down was great, everything was on time. maybe 17 hrs. A lot of fun.
Coming back was delays. It taken over 24 hrs. And the train had no water coming back. YUK!

The price was great, they were running a special at the time, $200 rt adult & kids ride free. Also, 2 nights before they called me and asked if I wanted to upgrade to a Cabin for $200.00. So in all for me & a 8 yr old it was 400.00 total.

The trip back sort of soured me on the Amtrack though.

:(
