Taking stroller on plane

Now this question is going to make me sound quite stupid as I feel I should really know the answer.

Can we take our stroller all the way down to the departure gate? I'm sure in the past I've seen people doing this. Never really paid much attention before as last time we didn't have Joshua and this is his first trip.

Also I have got a stroller bag to put it in as I don't really want it to get damaged if posssible as it's quite new. I assume I have to put a luggage label on with our details, flight number etc, don't want it going on a different flight!

Any advice would be great so I can be prepared.

Hi Karina

Yes you will be able to take the stroller all the way down to the departure gate and they will take it off you just before you board to stow in the hold. There should be no problem with a cover, just be ready to cover it fast and defiantely label with your destination like any other piece of luggage, you should be fine.

In addition there is a chance you may be able to take the stroller on the plane with you , it can depend on certain things such as how full the plane is, and how many other strollers they already have on board.

That's good to hear - we will have 3 strollers, and 2 kids (toddlers) who will need them!

We fly on Monday and I am certain that Virgin said that we would be able to take botht he stroller AND the car seat up to the aircraft. I guess we will know on Sunday night when we do Twighlight Check-In.

Now that is interesting. I asked our Airline the same question and they told us that we would definetely NOT be able to take our car seat right up to the aircraft. They said it had to be checked in with the normal luggage. The only way to avoid having to check it in is if we payed for a seat for our son and used it on the plane.

We did say we thought checking our car seat in the hold would be too unsafe for the car seat (getting thrown and bumped around it could loose it's effectiveness in an accident), so they said we could mark it fragile and take it for seperate check-in in the fragile section!

We decided, on that information, not to take our car seat and to hire out there instead, but your information has got me more confused now. I would be really grateful if you or anyone else has any further information regarding this type of situation.

Personally i'd take my own carseat if I had kids. Plenty of people take them on the plane and I haven't heard of anyone's being damaged (I guess it happens but presumably not often!) I've heard of hired seats not being in the best condition and also they wouldn't be familiar to the child which could be an issue in terms of comfort etc.

We recently flew to Sanford from Manchester with MyTravel. We took my daughter's buggy right up to the gate and watched as they threw it down a chute, right by the side of the plane.

Long story short, it never landed at Sanford. So not only was the start of our holiday messed up, (it took us 2 hours to leave the airport whilst the plane was searched and we completed forms), but we then potentially had the hassle and expense of having to buy another buggy.

Fortunately, the wonderful staff at the Wilderness Lodge gave us a free stroller (yes, FREE - and a brand new one at that!) so the crisis was averted.

Turns out our buggy had been sent to Dalaman, then the day before we left it was sent to Sanford. We finally had it delivered to our house (after a lot of hassle and phonecalls) two weeks after we returned home.

After this debacle, I will put up with the aggravation, and check the pram in with our luggage in future.

We were allowed to take our stroller on last year, so yes, it is certainly possible

Just concerned now about our car seat we're taking. This also has a travel bag so will just put a fragile sticker on it and hope for the best!
