Taking someone else’s child...

We are bringing my daughter’s friend with us. She is 17. I know that her parents need to fill out a form for us. I’d like them to name me as the adult in charge of her, but she and my daughter are not in my room. They are next door with my 20 yr old daughter and her 21 yr old friend. Can I still be named the adult in charge?

Pretty sure the two adults that she is sharing a room with would have to identify you as the adult that can take the child off the ship.

As far as what the girl's parents provide -- you can be named the "adult in charge" for purposes of travel, supervision, etc. The parents should write a letter that authorizes you to make emergency medical decisions for the girl. Be sure they provide a copy of her medical card as well.

The 21-yr-old friend will need to give permission for the 17-yr-old to leave the ship with you. This all has to do with who is booked into which room, and pertains only to DCL.

Thanks! Yeah, we already took care of the ‘permission to leave the ship’ part...now that you can do that as part of online check in (which is a great newer feature online). I just wanted to be sure that I could be the ‘adult in charge’ in regards to the paperwork to get her one the ship...since she isn’t in my room.

You should obtain a notarized medical power of attorney to legally act on her parents' behalf if there is any type of medical issue.
