Taking small kids on excursions

We're thinking about a couple of excursions on our upcoming repo cruise and wanted to ask about transportation in the ports. My DD4 still rides in a convertible carseat, which we will have with us, as we're driving to port and renting a car in Canaveral.

Those who have been on excursions, what do they do with little kids who should still be in child restraints? I'm not comfortable having her riding in a car or taxi without being in her carseat. How do you get to and from things? We're specifically thinking of the Africa Kunuku tour in Curacao and the Land's End boat tour in Cabo. Not sure about Acapulco yet. Do they take you in a bus, and is there a way to bring a carseat? Ours is pretty heavy, so if we had to lug it around, we'd just skip the excursion. And I'm not comfortable leaving dd on the ship for several hours.

Help!

I don't know about the car seat, but wanted to tell you I agree that I wouldn't do it without one! My only disappointment (and it was short lived) was the lack of choices of shore excursions for our DD 4 last summer. We waited until 06 when she will be 6 to do another cruise so that she had more choices. I would not leave her on the ship and be off the ship either. Too many odd things could happen. They most likely wouldn't but I would not enjoy the time I would be too worried. :sunny:

search for carseats. we just went through a lengthy discussion about this and the basic end point was that car seats are not required by law in taxis and buses - especially in Mexico and that most of the taxis don't even have seatbelts. Most people simply hold their children who have gone on the excursions and many people have forgone excursions altogether.
