Taking seasick pills at night?

We take on Bonine at bed time and it's work great for 24 hours and no drowsiness. We were up early every morning to run on deck with no problems.

My mom gets seasick but is concerned with getting drowsy and missing out on the daytime fun of the cruise. Has anyone had luck taking meds such as Bonine at night and having the effectiveness last during the next day?

Yes, when it comes to pills that makes us drowsy (like Gravo and Dramamine in my case) we take them at night (we usually only need it on the first day and/or nights of rough seas and we take ginger pills the rest of the time. :)

I've read that they give out Bonine on the ship at the medical bay? If so, are children also supposed to take it, or only if over age 12?

It is only for age 12 and up. They have a bin outside of health services with single serve packets of chewable Meclizine (the active ingredient in Bonine.) It is help yourself, but there is a sign that says 1 sample/person and that you can purchase more in the shops. There was also an informational sheet about dealing with seasickness. We were on a Wonder Alaskan cruise last August, and DD16 felt seasick, so I picked up 4 samples...as there were 4 of us in the room.

I get seasick, car sick and altitude sickness and I found that 1/2 Bonine at night does the trick for me and my daughters. If I take a whole Bonine, I am too sleepy.

I received confirmation from our pediatrician that we could use 1/2 of any over the counter motion sickness medicine for them if needed. I just tried the 1/2 tablet and it works with minimal sleepiness.

How old are your kiddos?

Here's one of my biggest seasickness remedies: you need to remember that you are on a ship.

The Disney ships are so incredibly beautiful, and the service and food so wonderful, that it's like being in a lovely resort on land - until the water in your glass sloshes back and forth at dinner. Remembering that I am on a moving vessel at sea helps with some small degree of seasickness, although I'm not ready to give up my nightly Bonine. You never know when the seas will turn rough.

I get seasick 24/7. I take dramamine at night and nondrowsy dramamine during the day. Someone else mentioned there are all kinds of ginger candies, etc at World Market if you are in the states. I believe non-drowsy dramamine is Bonine though? Same ingredient I believe. Never take the off brand. I don't know why - it just isn't the same.

I was seasick 24/7 as well, I think I was just taking Dramamine at night. I think I should try what you did when I go to Alaska.

I take bonine at night, works great for me! Usually around 7ish or a little earlier. It doesn't make me drowsy though to be honest.

I get seasick on a Merry-go-round, in the back seat of a car, any film that shows fast wobbling motion. I take Bonine (Meclazine) and Ginger Capsules and have no problem on cruises. I take the Bonine starting a day or two before the cruise. I take the Bonine late each evening, then take 2 ginger capsules in the morning, and usually 2 again in the late afternoon. I continue the Bonine for at least 2 days after the cruise.
If you take other medications, you should check with your physician to make sure the ginger won't interact/interfere with prescriptions.
