Taking Pictures of On Ride Photos Still Allowed?

Hello everyone!

I was last at Disney World in October. When I was there many people would take their cell phones out and take a picture of the screen when their on ride photo popped up. It seemed next to the end of my visit they were not letting guests do this. I forget how (a lot happened on that trip, I needed a vacation after the vacation). But I am worried this is not allowed now.

Thank you!

I hope they stopped it!. Between phones and GoPros it negatively impacts other guests enjoyment. Add to that not all guests are considerate, and if they were to drop their phone or the stick hits an obstacle it could truly cause serious injury to others behind you on the ride (or below You). Yes its cool but doesn't mean it should be allowed.

I don't think you understand what I mean. I am not talking about filming or taking pictures on the ride. I am talking about the on ride photo Disney takes while you are on the ride. And people taking pictures of the screen.

At universal they put big letters up over your faces so taking a picture of it is worthless I don't know if disney world does this too

Was there in Dec and I believe you could on some rides still

I don;t know if it's TECHNICALLY allowed or not, but I know many people who do it, and some who even ask the shop clerk first and are told to go ahead. Now, that could mean it's not against the rules, or it could just mean that the shop clerk doesn't want to get in an argument with the guest. Either way, if you want to do it I don't foresee any trouble for you.

The trouble with this is that's there's now words and such all over the pictures, so the pictures you'd get wouldn't be good anyway. In some cases, I couldn't even see what my party looked like because there were words right over our faces. Wondered who would ever purchase a photo if you can't see what you/your group looks like. Just something to keep in mind.

You'll see the unadulterated photo when you go to the checkout stand to buy it. The monitors when you leave the ride are just to find the photo number to give to the person selling photos. I have never understood people taking pictures of those monitors. The pictures look horrible on them. I've purchased several ride photos from Splash Mountain.

I'll admit to taking pictures of the monitors...it was a cheap way to get the photo just to show others...However i was there this week, and they now have words all over the picture so you can barely even tell its you....impossible to get a picture of yourself that way now.

I just take pictures of my ipad screen. I have the memory, but not a really high quality picture. The I just order a mug or 1 picture.

Ive taken a picture to send as a text to someone before. But if you really wanted, you can just log onto Memory maker (even if you haven't purchased) and get a better screen grab there. So I don't see the harm in it

I usually take a photo with the number in case it doesn't upload to my photo pass account correctly. We lost a few photos one trip because the CM insisted they would be on the account and they weren't. I'm not taking the photo as a momento, but as a way for the photo pass support folks to track it down.

Won't the pictures show up in your memory maker or whatever it is called even if you didn't purchase a package, with the option of buying a picture? Now you could just take a low quality screen shot.

In Memory maker the ride photos show up but you purchase that package and link to your MDE account and Magicbands. If you are talking about pulling them up from Photopass pictures I don't believe ride photos show up therefore you can only purchase them in the park. Ride photos were automatic with Memory maker but you had to go to the counter to buy them if you didnt have the package.

This may have changed but thats the way it was in December.

Back to the OP's question. Are you "allowed" to take pictures of the monitor - sure. Do you get a picture you can see - no it was this very behavior that made them put numbers and letters across the pictures at the monitors. These bootleg photos dont support the maintenance and improvement of this service which people PAY FOR. In order to stop bootlegs and encourage patrons to pay for this service they started distorting the image with graphics.

We have done it. We mainly did it to get the # listed on the photo. (Before MM was attached to MB.) It's not like the pic you take of the monitor is a high quality pic. Why would they care? Worse that can happen is they tell you know, but, but that point, you have already taken the pic.

Yea you can take pics of the screen after the rides. But starting about the beginning of the year they put text over the pics to prevent people from getting free pics and trying to get more to buy them.

However yes, you don't need memory maker or photo pass to have your ride pics and videos sent to your mde. You have the option to buy, but you can take a screenshot on your phone and have a good quality photo. It won't be the quality you want to blow the pic up or anything like that. Put it's good enough quality and size to save to your phone, post on Facebook or whatever else you want.

Bingo, this is what i do. My avatar was done this way. I have dozens of ride & M&G pics as my screensaver.

I took a pic of the monitor in Jan on TOT. Nobody said we couldn't, but it has writing on the screen.

So if I have a Magic Band, but do not prebuy Memory Maker, the photos will show up in my MDE account for me to look at? Or do I have to preorder MM to be able to see the photos in MDE?
