I love taking photos...especially on vacations. To the other photo lovers out there....

How many pictures do you take on WDW trips? How many did you take on your FIRST trip?

I went to WDW when I was 6, 10, and 14. I got my first camera right before my trip when I was 10. It was 1991 so I had a really old camera. It was a blue mickey mouse camera. The ones where you have to manually wind the film. And you had to attach a seperate flash. Each thing of film only had 12 pictures. I used a few rolls of film on the trip.

Now I have a digital camera. I haven't been to Disneyworld in 12 years so I know I'll want to take a million pictures. I'm trying to decide if I should get another memory card for my camera.

I would. I dumped probably about 500 or 600 or so pictures every night. (If you have a laptop and bring it with you, you can upload your pictures each night, emptying your card for use the next day). I really found that the best thing to do. Have a great time!!! There is no better place to take pictures! (Ok, well, that's my opinion and the excuse I make everytime I decide to take another trip there LOL)

I took so many pictures, I filled up ALL of my memory cards. Even though I had my notebook with me, our son and I use that mainly for school, and it never occurred to me to "empty" my cards (duh on my part)! :confused3 I filled up 2 1 gig, 1 "oldie" 126 mb, 2 256 mb, and 2 512 mb cards. I have a Sony Cybershot and that was a load of pictures (and some video) taken with it.
I would recommend a BIG memory card (unless you transfer to a laptop/notebook nightly)! That is actually what I am "asking for" for Christmas, two 2 gig memory stick duo cards, so next year I can take all my big cards and leave my small ones at home! I know that I would not want to take the time nightly to empty, as it would take away from the short, and precious, sleep time that I cherish (we run, run, run)! I love WDW and all of the photo ops... it is an amazing place for those of us that love photography and taking loads of pictures of family vacations! :thumbsup2

I just went out and purchased a 4gb card and have a 1gb on top of that. I am hoping that will get me through 10days of DisneyWorld. Am I kidding myself?

Memory cards are cheap. I'd buy at least one extra.

If you're planning to shoot video, probably not. It also depends on the resolution of your camera.

Right now we have a 256 and a 512 (I think that's right.) But there's a 1 gig at target that's pretty cheap so I think we're going to get that too. I don't think we're going to bring our laptop with us.

We went to the bahamas for 10 days for our honeymoon and i filled the 512 and half of the 256. I think there will be a lot more things to take photos of on this trip though.

I went to Disney World with a digital camera for the first time this past September. We were there for 5 days and I'd average about 700-800 pictures per day (yes, it's a lot of pictures, but you'll be glad you took them once you get home!). I would say have at least 4 GB worth of memory, just to be safe.

we just got back 2 weeks ago from our first disney trip and was there for 8 days. we had a 4gig memory card and a sony cybershot camera. we took 1500 pics along with video on that card. not to mention the 150pics taken on the photopass.

DH said that we took about 900 digital pics. during our trip this past summer (9 nights, 10 days).

We were using a total of 3 digital cameras (me, DH, DD13).

Definitely buy as much memory as you can afford before you go.

We do tons of travelling, and I take alot of pictures wherever we go. I have a 5mp camera, and a 1g card. I've never filled it - until DW!

I ended up spending $40 to transfer pics to a CD at MK. If I'd planned ahead, I could have bought an extra 2gig card at Amazon for $25 before we left!

The only thing to be careful with is the really large, newer cards may actually work slower in an older and/or less robust digital camera. Check the photo forums online to see what is recommended for your particular camera.

My Canon that's a few years old is actually faster with and SD Ultra II 1gig than it is with an SD Extreme III (newest) 2gig.

Wow, after reading this I think my 1 gig will not be enough. I normally do not take a lot of pics and regret that after the trip. So for this trip, I have a new camera and plan to take lots of pics. I think I am going to need to get another memory card.

We figured with all our memory cards and with the camera on the setting for the biggest photos...we'll be able to get around 1000 pictures. I think that'll be enough for us. We also have a video camera. Besides, I don't want to spend the entire time snapping photos because then I can't truly enough the trip.

I know I'll take a lot of photos at EPCOT. And quite a few at the Magic Kingdom. Animal Kingdom will get a lot. MGM will probably get the least. Our resort looks beautiful so I'll take a lot there.

I usually think of it this way. Back when I used film, for a trip like this, I'd be buying multiple rolls of film. Memory cards are getting to the point where they are almost as cheap as film per photograph. I know I couldn't buy 950 pictures worth of film for the price of a 1GB memory card.

A friendly tip for anyone who isn't sure... check your camera's manual to make sure it will recognize larger memory cards before purchasing one. I was about to purchase a 4gb card on eBay when I read the seller purchased it before learning his camera would not recognize cards over 2gb. I checked my camera manual and it said the same thing. Glad I didn't buy the card and learn the hard way.

I tried very hard not to have my camera in front of my face for our whole Disneymoon trip, lol. I also pre-paid for a photopass CD so I could let other people worry about my pics for me plus my DMIL had her camera.
In all, I took 396 pictures on my camera, 278 photopass pictures and my DMIL got around 200 pictures on her camera. Our wedding officiant took 52 ceremony and postceremony pics for us.
I was happy with the numbers, hehe. :goodvibes

During our May 2007 trip, we ended up taking well over 2000 pictures, plus video and over 100 Photopass pictures as well. That trip was our 4th to WDW in 4 years.

Plus we just returned from another trip in October and took another 1100 pictures plus more video.

Depending on what the Mega Pixels are you might be. I would suggest taking a laptop with you so that you can empty it every night. You take easily take about 1000 pictures there. And this is only 100 a day for your 10 days. Thye do offer to empty your card onto disk at the camera palces at Disney too.

I had two 1 gig cards for my older canon powershot s2. I have taken them to a week long camp and took over 700 pics. I just purchased an additional two 2 gig cards as well.

One tip I got from a photographer friend of mine was to figure out how many pics you can hold total on all your memory cards, then figure out the daily allotment and try to stay within those totals so you don't run out of space in the end of the vacation.
