Taking out the sequel trilogy characters in SWGE?(I doubt it)

I'm fine with the way the land is now, but with the benefit of hindsight...

Setting it during the galactic civil war era gives you a ton of freedom.

As long as they are careful, they can sell merch and use any characters or story ideas starting at the Bad Batch TV show all the way through to Mandalorian. Solo, Rebels(also gives access to clone wars characters like ahsoka, rex, and maul), rogue one, fallen order game, original trilogy, battlefront campaign, mandalorian, mandalorian spin offs, etc.

So much more freedom for merch, characters and theming. And an era that is much more expansive and hits each age demographic and fan group via all the properties you can fit into it. A proven commodity with more to pull from, essentially.

The only thing you have to do is make sure certain characters are not out at the same time.
.
Given how against the actors of the sequel trilogy seem to be to be involved anymore with Star Wars, and how Disney is treating it like the prequels were(waiting till nostalgia + a TV show to fill in continuity) makes it popular to use again and until then is kinda ignoring it in supplemental material and metch.

It kind of sucks that the land is foccused in an era that is not as marketable(as of right now) or not very expansive right now in terms of scope and probably won't be for a fair bit(going off prequel history)

I like the idea of doing festivals like epcot where they could rotate characters/timeline in galaxy edge. This could also be springboard to make changes more permanent if they find original trilogy is in more demand then sequels (I imagine this would be true).

I also think they could just let up on the strictness of timeline and just include those characters. Maybe I’m minority on this but I don’t think galaxy edge being a single timeline immerses me enough to outweighs benefits of getting the original trilogy characters involved.

But they really aren't into selling general merchandise back in SWGE.....

Hindsight won't come into play for another ten years... who know what the new generation will be the most into, or what other films or series there will be.

First order and Resistance paraphernalia isn't general merch to you?

The "black spire outpost" branded stuff is the only thing that is tied to the land. Everything else they sell is era specific or totally nondescript "star wars" merch.
.
Id personally rather see Vader, Mando/grogu, Ahsoka, Bo Katan, Chewbacca, Han, Luke, Leia, Obi Wan, Hondo, Hera, Sabine, Thrawn, Rex, Tarkin, Stormtroopers etc. Over just Kylo and the 3 "new hereos" who all either hate the brand after their experience or they outright admit there was no plan for their character.

I'm sure in a decade the sequels will be a good fit. But Mando+OG Trilogy(with anything else that fits in those eras) is like objectively more marketable and has wider sustained appeal(with less controversy).

I mean, they planned to do the land before they even had a story for the new trilogy. And its objectively true they never actually had one at all.

Imagineers did phenomenal given how little concrete material there was and how much the films changed as the land was being built.

i love the orginal, but i also have kids that love the newer ones. I get it. I understand why they did what they did.

However i dont get why they have to be stuck in a timeline. I've said it before, Star Wars could have been its own park, different lands would be different planets or timelines. I think it would be huge.
I wish WDW would have made their own Star Wars park and Universal their own HP park.

The newer series is hugely popular with my kids and their friends in elementary school. I also know lots of people in their 30's that like it so I think the minority who don't like it are just louder about it than the fans.

Its just weird that Kathleen Kennedy has to come out and say they aren't abandoning the era when she was asked(since Disney has ignored it since Rise of Skywalker and nothing slated to come out with the next 10 projects is touching it).

Why ignore it if they don't see problems that impact the bottom line? If it was a good move to emphasize that era from a financial sense, don't you think they would?

I'm not even someone who dislikes the sequels outright, but the choices they are making on Star Wars content for the next 4 years or so in every form of media on what to emphasize paint a clear picture to me.

And based on that picture, I'd argue locking the land into 1 era(that is something they are choosing to de-emphasize) wasn't good in hindsight.
.
And anecdotally, i have 3 cousins (ages 11 - 16) and they hated the ep 8 and 9. And their friends and themselves all loved Rogue One. Anecdotal evidence is just that, anecdotal. Id prefer to look at trends of what Lucasfilm is making and emphasizing to get a picture of what the reality is in the current moment.

And even if 15 years from now, it ends up a good call, is that really a win? Most theme park things last at most 20 years in their original state. And that is rareified territory to go beyond that without any small or more often large changes.

Universal seemed to back off Fantastic Beasts (if rumors are right) and pivot to OG Harry Potter for epic universe. I think that situation is very comparable here(in terms of marketability at this moment, not 15 years from now)

In my eyes I think why Disney Parks want to get rid of the sequel characters of Star Wars is that they want to add the most popular characters and take the least popular characters out of Galaxy's Edge because the popular Star Wars characters are hits with fans. But if you go to a Star Wars meet and greet at Disney Parks you'll see the only characters that do meet and greets are Darth Vader Chewbacca Luke Skywalker Rey C3PO R2D2 Darth Maul and the Stormtroopers And they should bring out Han Solo Anakin Skywalker Yoda Padme and The Mandalorian to give them popularity. It's very weird that Han Solo is only seen in the shows and they should bring him out for photos and more. But as long as new Star Wars characters are added they will continue to do this

With the mandolorian and the new IB I wan show I’m shocked they haven’t been rolling characters out on some sort of weekly basis a la avengers campus (speaking of which saw a picture of Captain Marvel, Captain America Sam Wilson and Shang-Chi fixing the Christmas decor after the Hawkeye show messed it up and I loved it!)

Yeah, see they did Avengers Campus right in that it isn't tied to the timeline. I like the sequel characters just fine (and they are plenty popular despite fan grousing), but by limiting the story to a specific era, they made it difficult to include anything else. Now, one could argue that Avengers Campus is less immersive in some ways, but to me it has a good balance of immersion and "theme-parkiness" which I prefer. Now if only they had built the Avengers ride it would feel more complete!

Galaxies Edge hasn't really Wowed many people. Now with the Galactic Starcruiser looking to bomb they may be rethinking
their strategy of leaving out the older story lines.

I saw the promotional material for the new Starcruiseser and canceled. Everything looked like crap and more like Star Trek than Star Wars.

The new trilogy wasn't the huge success Disney hoped.

Also from Rise of the Resistance was made to be able to change the story line and characters. The thought was to be able to change the story line
every few years.

It was a massive short term success in terms of box office.

Its the 15 years or so after that initial hit, that they as a company are clearly showing regret. Merch, new projects, games, books, etc. point to a demphasization. Let alone John Boyega and other actors comments on the brand (making it hard to do more things anyway)
.
And like I said, I'm not really sure the sequels having a resurgence and a rehabilitation 15 years from now(like the prequel era did) is ideal or even remotely desired. Abd hell the prequels required a whole 7 season show and tons of books/comics to lay the groundwork for that rehab.

Which then leads into it being even more interesting Disney isn't going for that strategy and instead bolstering other era's currently.

I never understood why the rides could just be timeline specific (even the original star tours was,, sort of) but the land itselfcould be whatever era they wanted that day.

Honestly the Harry Potter strategy was way better.

This is hilarious. Why the heck would Disney want to remove the characters created under their rule?

When it comes to internet rumors about Star Wars, don't believe ANY of them.

The Kathleen Kennedy interview(about having to answer if Disney is low key abandoning the sequel era, cause ppl are noticing a trend) and Disney not really having any announced sequel era content planned across all forms of media for the foreseeable future, ISNT a rumor.

Anything else is speculation. But those things are real right now.
.
As for if Disney would "want" to remove something? Disney is going to do whatever they think costs the least while simultaneously makes the most money.

And much of the speculation in this thread is either based on that premise, or on a hindsight perspective of when the land was being planned.

(Also, Disney owns all star wars characters, i can promise you they don't care who made them. They care who sells.)

I doubt Disney wants anything else done in the "future", especially on the TV side... as that would become cannon and lock them into a "story". Much better to go back an color in some of the history that has already been hinted at in existing cannon (or even in the non-cannon stories). And leave the future open for another trilogy of some kind, give Daisy Ridley ten years to age and bring her forward twenty years in the timeline with a child somehow born from Kylo Ren via more midi-chlorians hocus pocus... or something just as crazy. Key is to not lock in anything else...

I think changing SWGE will happen around the time Imagineering gets the Yeti's arm moving again... as we already have a "promise" from Joe Rhode that was going to be fixed half a decade ago. And I just rode Splash and Space Ship Earth for the last time... again.

The biggest thing here is Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega have all essentially said they are totally done with Star Wars(with varying levels of venom in their words).

It might just take a decade for any of them to even consider it. Which was one of the counter points thrown at Kennedy online(by non toxic ppl btw, not the hatedom) when she said they were not going to abandon those characters.

As much as I love Galaxy's Edge, I kinda agree that locking the timeline is kinda dumb. While I don't hate the latest trilogy, I'm more of a tv show fan aka Mandalorian, anything with Ashoka, Bad Batch, even the video game characters, etc. And my best friend is hardcore OG trilogy fan. Neither of us feel like the land itself is a specific timeframe, the theming of it doesn't scream any timeline to us, specially cause it's supposed to be a dif outpost. Plus if they really wanna have ppl feel like they are "living their own adventure" why not allow dif timelines? I don't really see the problem of having Leia show up and a few hrs later see Rey for example.

Agreed. Star Tours has different timelines that you travel to, and Star Wars shows they did often featured characters from different eras like Padme and Leia on stage at the same time.

I'm sure that at some point they'll change the GE characters. The land itself is generic enough to be the setting for just about any storyline. I can't see it still being the same after twenty years.
