Hello all,
We are staying at AS Movies and do not want to have to worry about coffee in the a.m. so we are considering taking our Keurig with us.
We are flying Southwest and have free checked baggage so that's not a problem.
Just wondering who else has done this and if they had any problems?
Thanks!

Depending on the model it may be difficult if not impossible to get all the water out of it. Then when you lay it on it's side the water will leak getting anything in the suitcase with it wet. If it's enough it may leak out of the suitcase and onto others belongings. I would be pissed if I had to deal with wet luggage because someone packed a small appliance in their luggage

Not only that, but they are pretty heavy and honestly, the way checked luggage is treated, you will be extremely fortunate if it is in one piece and still works once you get there.

People pack items with liquids in checked bags all the time. I'd rather have water leak onto my things than red wine!

Just pack the whole thing in a big ziploc bag, and pad it well, problem solved.

I do like to have coffee as soon as I get up, that's why I want to bring the Keurig and it's more convenient for it to be in our room. ( People would freak to see me first thing in the morning walking like a zombie to get my coffee!) (I'm thinking of the children!) :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I do plan on wrapping it in a couple of thick beach towels to protect it.
I appreciate the feedback from everyone!

There are less-than-$15 coffeemakers at places like Walmart and Target. If I was a big coffee drinker, I'd buy one of those online and have it shipped to my resort. Just an idea. No one will stop you from taking the Keurig, I'd just be afraid of it getting damaged even with padding. If you do pack it, I'd use a hard-sided suitcase if you have one, in addition to wrapping it well.

My work has the most disgusting coffee ever (Flavia) and I am asking for a Keurig Mini for my desk for Christmas this year (since no one ever knows what to get me). I think we may also take it on vacations. I know my regular one at home is too big/bulky to pack, but I think the Mini would be ok, even with air travel.

This is a good idea, and I wouldn't feel bad leaving it behind since it only cost $15.

Are you allowed to inquire if anyone wants to split the cost and pass it off when you are leaving?

Every once in a while I think that they should give coffeemakers special 'medical device' treatment while traveling!

i know and I think that is ridiculous as well. There was a post here once where a woman's suitcase was drenched by formula from another suitcase. It leaked inside and ruined the bag and the clothes had to be washed (and formula doesn't always come out). People just don't think how their actions could potentially impact others. And having dealt with a keurig shipped with water in it (bought off Amazon third party, said it was new, lied, but that's another story). The water isn't clear water. It can have some coffee tint to it.

I read somewhere that there is a lady who rents Keurigs to people at WDW. Has it waiting for you upon arrival and picks it back up when vacay is over.

I personally would walk to the food court with my mug. Second choice buy a cheap drip maker and have it shipped to the resort, maybe start a swap when you are done. I wouldn't risk my $150 Keurig the way luggage is treated, all that bumping around can't be good on them. Mod and Deluxes have them in the rooms.

I also think it's a good idea to buy a cheap drip coffee maker. There are some really small one-cup models that come with a thermal cup. It would fit easily into your luggage, or you could have on shipped directly to your resort. Pack your own coffee supplies in a ziplock and take them with you.

Do WDW hotels not normally have coffeemakers?
Seems like every hotel I've stayed at in the last six years or so did, even the small mom & pop motels in Cape Cod...

Nope. The dis doesn't allow swaps that involve money.

value resorts don't have coffee makers except I'm the family suites.

And many people don't like the coffee makers used at the other resorts.

I have read of others taking their Keurig as a carry-on, usually the mini. We have an Owners Locker that we keep ours in, if we didn't have one we would seriously consider carrying one with us. We love our morning coffee and a normal drip pot just doesn't 'do it' for us.

WDW is practically a second home for us and we treat it as such when we go (DVC members), we have pics of the family we set around, our Keurig, my feather pillow, etc......all thanks to our Owners Locker.

I take my Keuriq all the time. It's a lot less mess to get a cup of coffee.

I don't leave the room until I've had my coffee and I like it very early.

In room drip style coffee makers are often kind of grungy looking and bringing your own coffee means messing with filters and trying to clean it.

And for water leaking out when it is on its side, how about laying it on its side before you pack it and see if the water comes out.
