im keen to not rack up a huge bill but still want to text/check facebook regularly

Any ideas on what to do ;)

sorry im useless with techno stuff

You'll save the most by NOT calling Joh when you are away. :thumbsup2

Nat turn your data roaming off that will stop the phone from date downloading emails etc. I am with o2 and one international text takes 4 from my allowance not sure if the same with orange. As for face book you will need a wifi spot to get that unless you want to pay for international data,

really??? it does surprise me that you are taking your phone with you :rotfl2: you hardly used it on our dis girly weekend ;)...hope you get it figured out soon

best solution is wifi as others have said.

If you're on wifi then a skype account will do wonders for your call bills - calls to landlines from skype are only a few pence per minute. I've not tried it from the iPhone but i know it's possible. You basically need to download the app, register and then buy some skype credit.

When I was there last week I saw loads of people in the lobby bar at night using their I Phones so there must be a cheap way to use it!

DW has unlimited text with Orange for her iPhone. Any text sent abroad do not come out of this allowance and when we checked for USA it was 49p per text :headache:
As others advise I would disable data roaming and restrict FB etc with wi-fi. Otherwise you could come home to a nasty surprise :scared1:
