Taking my child alone, without husband, anyone ever done this?

I just decided (after consulting the Dis, of course) to take my two kids (5 and 7) for three days solo. DH will be joining me after those three days, but we'll be on our own for the beginning. My main concern wasn't safety (is it bad that I didn't really even think about that?) but rather if we'd all be able to do the rides together (i.e., could three of us sit together on the rides).

Now that I've decided to go, I'm just jumping in with both feet and hoping for the best! I think you'll have fun!

Yes - most of the things you will want to do with kids 5 & 7 you can sit three to a seat. My kids are two years apart and we did fine even on btmr and splash mountain, all the fantasy land rides and even Dumbo. For Buzz I sat in the middle to steer and they used the guns. I can't rememer having any issues with seating !!

I have gone with just the kids. It has been a while, I much prefer DH tagging along.....but I have done it before.

As for the comments about consulting DH, I take offense to the idea that you shouldn't need to consult your DH. The truth is that we consult each other. It is common courtesy and I would expect him to not just make a decision to take off for a week without checking with me first, nor would I just book a vacation without him without consulting with him first. That is part of a good relationship and respect.

Granted we only live 2.5 hours away and only went for a weekend, but I just got back last night from a 2 day/2 park trip with my 5-yo DD. We did MK and AK. Also we stayed offsite at my cousin's house so I did have to deal with driving back and forth.

We go up alone because DH is anti-Disney and anti-theme parks in general. We're all happiest when Grumpy stays home. :rolleyes1

My daughter is a cling-on and likes to hold my hand 95% of the time, so I really don't have any fears of her accidently roaming off. (She would prefer to ride the "mommy express" if I let her.)

This was her "big girl rides" trip and it was amazing - Splash Mountain, Kali Rapids, Dinosaur, Haunted Mansion, Pirates. Her only hold outs are rollercosters - she hates Barnstormer. :confused3

The only thing about an alone trip is that I buy more pics that Disney takes of us, because they are the only ones with my daughter and I in the shot!

Our AK day would not have happened if DH had been there - the skies opened on Sunday and rained the good portion of the afternoon - 3/4 of the people in the park left. My DH would have too - but we bought ponchoes and held out (We were already wet from Kali what was a little more wet ;) ) and walked straight onto everything we wanted! - Including dinner at Rainforest Cafe - which was booked when we tried to get ressies before the trip!

When I said "consult" I mean more of the "asking permission" kind of consulting, not "I was thinking of......" kind of thing. I just know someone had said that they couldnt imagine having to do that. I didnt mean that I didnt mention it or ask what he thought (whne I asked what he thought, that is when he wondered about our safety which is the whole reason for this thread in the first place).

I was truly just asking about a trip to Disney with just me and DD on this thread, not a commentary on my relationship, but thanks!
