If you take a laptop with you, what do you do with it while you are out of your room? Do you feel comfortable leaving it in the room? Do you hide it in the closet, etc?

We have left it in the room plugged in to charge and have also put it in the suitcase(locked) in the closet. We have done the latter on the T&T or full cleaning days. Sometimes we have just put it in the drawer with socks and underwear over it. It really depends on how paranoid I am feeling at the time If we do put it away we also put the connecting cord back in the closet until we need it again.

We bring a laptop (or many laptops) most trips. I feel completely comfortable leaving them out in the open. If you are worried, cable locks are pretty darn cheap.

We usually have at least one and sometimes 2 laptops with us. We always leave them out, and on cleaning days, we put them back in the cases and either in the closet or under the bed etc. At OKW, we usually put them in the cabinet over by the dining table.

I rented a house for a week - ( took it with me and left it in my car). Then we headed SSR for 4 nights... left it in the room on the desk the entire stay. I feel more comfortable leaving in in DVC resorts than hotels and rented houses. Mine was a short stay, so there were no cleaning services.

Forgive me if I sound really, really stupid here. But, what is a cable lock and how do you lock up a laptop with it. Is it that wire (cable) looking lock and if so, how do you do it? (Lock it to the desk?)

Next trip I am going to put a little sign next to our built in webcam that states "You are being filmed and recorded for security purposes" and have the live footage shown on the screen.

Its a steel cable with a combination lock on it that attaches to the laptop and a fixed object (table, desk, etc). Just about all new laptops have a small slot on the side or back that the lock fits into. Some cable locks even have motion sensors and/or cable cut alarms that go off is somebody tries to take the laptop. They offer fairly good protection but a determined thief could still remove the hard drive from the laptop without actually having to steal the whole thing. But in most cases this will deter potential walk-offs. You can find them at any Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy, etc.

We use cable locks where ever we go. For less than $20 it gives us a piece of mind and since they are company laptops they are required.

My laptop is RIGHT now locked to the table at OKW with a cable lock. Having seen what you have to do to get these off if you lose the key, then I feel pretty safe. (I recommend the ones with combination locks just for this reason LOL!)

Remember there's "NO pixie dust" protecting your stuff. Right now there are a ton of men outside my building "powerwashing" and working on plumbing for example. I am sure Disney does it's best, but.....

Aren't those cables easily cut... ?

I use a cable lock. Someone recently posted that when they checked in they went to the room, opened with their key and it was already occupied! They turned around and went back to the front desk but someone unscrupulous could have taken what they wanted and left. I would not leave something worth hundreds of dollars sitting out unprotected. I was in a hotel recently and noticed the swing lock was propping the door open when I walked by and it was still that way a couple of hours later. Sure, they could possibly cut the lock but that takes some work.

I too think that is amusing! :rotfl2:

I put my 15" screen MacBook Pro in the in-room safe. It fits with no problem.
Not all safes are the same size. My MacBook did not fit in the safe at BWV. I think that the SSR safes may be larger. I bring a cable lock and try to remember to stash it out of sight as well.
I am experimenting with leaving the laptop at home and only bringing my iPhone and a router. Last trip this worked great except when I needed to type a longer e-mail (then it was annoying to have to hunt-and-peck). Not having to haul a laptop through airline security was great. Having a cell phone, iPod and mini-computer in one small device surely was handy.
