taking kids out of school

To add to a pp...we're also in Cupertino SD in NorCal. Not only can you be considered truant w/only 4 unexcused absenses, but after 10 absenses *no matter the reason* you are automatically unenrolled! You must go back to the school and do the whole enrollment procedure again AND they will not guarantee you a spot in your own school, let alone your old class. Beaurocracy inhales profusely!

All this to say check your handbook first!

Wow some of your SD are strict. Our school is pretty great. Although my kids are only in grade 1 and 3 (this year). My kids area going to be missing the first 3 1/2 days of school this year as we are taking 2 weeks to go to California. We figured it was an okay time as they don't do much the first week of school. Actually 2 years ago the principal at my kids school gave me a heads up to the for the next school year for a perfect time to take the kids out of school for a holiday.

ok so we are going in october. i am planning on just leting my sons school know ahead of time. he is only in 1st grade. i was wandering what other people do. do you tell them now or do you just call them in? my sis in law told her sons school and they said they would call truency if she took him out for a week vacation. thats why im afraid to let the school know now. what do you think? i think its would be really dumb if they called truency. not every family can take a vacaition on sping break. what should i do?
oh and my son last year didn't miss hardly any days.

In my school district you can request an independent study packet if the student will be out 5+ days. If the packet is completed then the student will not be deemed truent.
