I just got 5 free humulog pens ( the insulin is in the pen and there for you need no bottles and syringes to take, its all self contained) i can not believe I got 5 of these for free. I take insulin and have to have this kind for meals. Im loving the fact I can take a pen to the parks for my meals and not have to measure and take out a bottle and a syringe. :cool1::cool1: If you have a script for insulin, at a pharmacy, they have to honor this certificate and then you get 5 filled pens ! ( and there full sized as the same as in a bottle of insulin)
I also got free glucose meters with strips ( enough for my trip) so i do not have to take mine from home in case it gets lost or broken.
Being diabetic can be tough when you go on vacation and need to pack it, the pens can stay out of the fridge I was told for 30 days. my doctor also gave me my other insulin in pens to :) ( for free as full size samples. ) Im all set !!

Thanks Teatime! I passed this on to my daughter who is a Type 1 diabetic. We'll be going to the parks the first week of September...these will come in handy.

your so welcome. I saw this on micechat and thought I would do it, I was thrilled to get 5 pens for free :cool1: insulin is so expensive ....... free is wonderful !! and the pens cost a fortune, I could never afford them !!

I rarely test for low sugars and mom never tests any more. Doctor said her long term testing was fine for sugars. I have a ton of lancets if you need and may have some one touch strips lying around. They send us tons of supplies even though we rarely test. Mom knows when to stop on the ice cream and I have been able to get my lows under control thankfully.

wow!! you guys are doing wonderful!!
I would love the one touch strips, I have plenty of lancets. I would send you shipping moneys to !!

See I test 4 times a day and have to. I have gone thru every insulin there is.... Im finally on the right ones and feel so much better !

When are you next in the parks as I can save up and give you what I can find of the strips. I do not know why but lancets are multiplying.

I will be there in August. We are going for a week :) hey, you can come to the fairfield and swim with us, ( or like me who just lays on a lounger sipping a cold drink :lmao: or come with us to milli's and have lunch on me :)

teatime: Is this the first time you are using pens? I've been using them for about 14 years now. Your post surprised me! I can remember on my first visit to Disneyland in 1996 sitting, waiting for the electric parade and was able to take my night time pen insulin injection in my thigh while sitting on the sidewalk without anyone even noticing!

yes, very first time and Im loving it!! I live in a small town, heck we are always the last to know about something new. I can not believe they have been around that long. Also I have no insurance so the cost is stagering for me, the free pens made my whole year !

Oh, jeepers, so sorry! I'm very happy for you that you have found the pen & got it for free! It really does make injecting easier, just dialing your dose. I'm very happy you will have this on your trip!

Excuse my ignorance, but what would people do who didn't have insurance and couldn't afford insulin? How would they get it?

Its hard !! :confused3 but I do have a wonderful doctor and she gives me free insulin, I just buy the needles and the strips. which cost a fortune. But I save up, do what I can and do well :) Im afraid this will be my last disney trip, I have put off many medical procedures so my grand kids can see disneyland and also I take care of my parents, and there in need of me more and more so no more trips, and I need so many things for my own body that its a not going to be possible any longer to take trips. but I have taken them several times, and they have been blessed. I want them to grow up and know they did do many things. I never traveled or even went any where until I was 45 years old. I know what its like to be stuck and never go any where. I raise them and have taught them that we work for things, and take care of things, and there is such a wonderful place as Disney !! Im sure as they grow up they will be Disneyland adults to :)

Im a pharm tech and also a diabetic... just to clarify a few things here, you have to have a script specifically for Humalog Kwikpens not just for any kind of insulin. Also each pen, after the first use, is good for 28 days out of the frige. You don't need traditional syringes for these pens but you do need pen needles which actually cost more than syringes (if you are paying cash price instead of through an insurance plan). And the total units of insulin you get in the pens is actually more than a vial of regular Humalog (15ml versus 10ml). I also don't know where you are posting from but since Jan of this year CA drug reps can no longer give doctors (or us at the pharmacy) free samples:confused3 So the free samples from our doctors are drying up fast.
One final bit to add here is I hope no one ever, ever pays for a glucose meter!! They give them away all the time! We always have coupons we can use to give our customers free meters from the manufactuors but if your pharmacy doesn't have them then just go online or call the company who makes the meter you want they will send you one absolutely free (no shipping). The meters are a one time cost for them but they want you to pay the outrageous cost of the strips month after month.
