DH was asking how can I make a PS for someplace when at that time would we know if we felt like eating at that restaurant? He says how do you know if you're hungry at that time..and especailly with the variety of food at Epcot do you know if you'll want Japanese, Norwegian, Chinese, Moroccan, etc food at that particular time. He would rather see how we feel and decide what to eat when we get there. Would this be a horrible idea? We're going in just about a week and when I have called for a couple restaurants they had some PS's open. It may not be that crowded?? I know someplace like Le Cellier or France might be booked, but what about the others? Has anyone done walk up at a restaurant and been ok? I figured that someone has had to - since apparnetly most people don't make PS's.

I disagree that most people do not make advance PS. With the advent of the new dining plan, more and more people are eating at sitdown restaurants especially at the peak times. I think that it would depend on when you go and what time you wanted to eat? If you picked times earlier or later than the usual dining hours you would probably be fine. The other thing to remember is that you are a party of two and it is usually easier to seat smaller parties without a PS. I usually go to WDW with 5 or more people which usually includes at least 2 kids, so if we don't make PSs we would be in for long waits. And beside being that we are on vacation, we like to eat a nice meal at least 1x per day.

Don't forget that you are not required to show up for your priority seatings (or whatever they are called now). It might be a good idea to make the ps's as a back-up plan. If you decide you are not hungry or want to go someplace else, then skip the ps. If you try a few restaurants and the waits are too long, or they are not taking walk-ins, you can still use your ps.

We did this last year with the ice cream social. We just decided we didn't want to take a break that day, so we didn't go. Of course, now we can't do the ice cream social at all anymore, so I really regret that decision. :guilty:

YOur going to be so sory if you don't plan your dinning. We did not our first trip & it was horrible we got what everyone else did not want that day. In epcot we were could only get a sit-down in China... so you'll end up not eating what you want anyway.

My vote is to make the PS's....then you have a choice...use it or don't. The best of both worlds!

Question???...I thought if you had a PS and didn't show up you were charged. Or is that only for the character dining??

That's a good point. We made breakfast PS's because we figured we would be hungry in the morning, but we didn't know what to do about ones later in the day. I don't want to feel I HAVE to be somewhere if I am not hungry and am having fun somewhere else.

As discussed on a thread a few days ago, with the new MYW dining plan, most are now making PS's and according to those who were there, all walk-ups were being turned away . One family stated that the could not find a sit down anywhere in MK.

I would make the PS's . Yes it does require some planning, but that's part of the fun at least to me. If you have at least an idea what parks you're going to do on what days, then check out what places you'd like to eat there. www.allearsnet.com has menus' for all restaurants. There will probably be some times when you just don't make it to your PS, but unless they take a credit card number with your ressie, you won't be charged. It's better to be safe than sorry and have to eat counters for your whole trip.

What time of year are you going? If it is in the heat of the summer , it's nice to take a break at a sit down restaurant. I would make at least one advanced reservation for your trip for each day. You can always call and cancel if you change your mind, but your chances of getting into a table service restaurant as a walk up aren't that great.

I used to say - No, you don't need PS.

That has changed, however. Last trip (4/15 - 4/24) I saw many people being turned away from walk-ups, especially at the Park restaurants. But also at the more popular resort restaurants (Ohana, Boma etc)You used to be able to walk up if you were willing to wait. Now, they are so booked, waiting isn't even an option. Then you would be stuck with either whatever you are allowed to wait for or counter service.

I would make a PS for one sit-down a day. If you keep it, you keep it. If your plans change & you are willing to eat CS - then fine. There is no charge for a regular PS. But calling WDWDINE & canceling is a nice courtesy to others who may want the spot. You can call from your resort room or any guest relations in the Parks. Only takes a minute.

I agree 100% with Leota.
