Has anyone had their braces taken off for an occasion? And then after that had them put back on?

How much did it cost?

No way and I think it would be stupid to do so. Sorry, but I had braces and there's no way in heck I would have them removed and then put back on.

Me too. Even as a teen, just the pain and grossness of having them put on again, versus the pain, but wonderful feeling of taking them off....it just wouldn't be fair to you. I'd leave them on :flower:

After all the trouble i went thru getting mine on there was no way i would take them off and put them back on
they stayed there for 3 long years

what occasion would you want to take them off for??

No, and I even got married in mine. Taking them off was a big hassle when I finally did get them off. I can't imagine going through all that again of having them put back on. It would be insane.

Unless... if you wanted to pay a good bit, why not have them taken off and get the new invisiline braces? I had that sort of thing as a retainer and I really wish I'd had those for braces.

I would keep them on if I had the choice. The amount of trouble they had getting them on in the first place would be incentive enough for me.

No way. Those suckers hurt like heck to have put on and taken off! I had braces for 5 years -- they were just a part of me. (I did tend to smile with my mouth closed to avoid "metal mouth" in photos.)

So what's the occasion? And when will you be getting them off? :confused3

Soon I think. Actually my bottom braces are just so close to my gums that I can't get them clean. They bleed a lot. I just wanted a weeks' respite. Oh, and if they happened to be off to have our family Christmas picture taken... :rolleyes1

You know, I know that asking for them off is impossible.

But perhaps you can have the pictures altered?

Having had mine taken off this week, I'd answer an definite "No". It was about as much fun as having a crown put in and my gums are still swollen from the procedure to boot.

Pay to have the photo Photoshopped to remove the braces!

I feel your pain. I have braces too and I am praying they will be coming off soon.

I definitely would not consider having them removed for a couple of weeks. Teeth can shift very quickly in just a few weeks and this could set you back months.

The only way to help the bleeding gums is to brush very well under the braces and all around the teeth. I recommend you getting an end tuft brush and one of the new brushes with diagonally placed bristles. Yes, your gums will bleed badly for a few days but as long as you are diligent the puffy gums and bleeding will clear up. :wave2:

Well, I won't be calling you 'stupid'.... (I don't think that poster meant it as badly as it sounded to you!!!! :goodvibes )

But, I have had braces... And, NO WAY would I do it.

And, think of it this way... How much did you pay for your braces??? I would imagine that half of that was the materials and the time used to put the braces on, and to remove them.

I have a feeling that if you heard how much your orthodontist would charge to completely take you out of braces and then back on again.... :earseek:

That would be one EXPENSIVE photo!!!!!

PS: do you use a rotary toothbrush. Like a Braun or Oral B???? My Orthodontist automacally gave each patient a special rotary brush called a Roto-Dent. It came with /\ shaped brush heads. This WOULD clean all in that gum-line and help your situation with that problem!

Or, perhaps a visit to the hygienest at your regular dentist????

I didn't say you were stupid, I said it would be a stupid thing to do.

Thanks hon! She is always so cheerful. :)

OK, I am not going to take them off...so thanks for your time. I will look in to a better toothbrush. I just don't want to LOSE my teeth after spending all this money on them. :teeth:

Thanks!

If they are so uncomfortable, talk to your ortho and see what he/she can do. They might can move a couple brackets or maybe you using wax creatively might do the trick? :confused3

I had braces for a year as an adult and I know your pain! As far as the picture goes, if it bothers you so much definitely have them photoshopped out. It's nice to live in the year 2005!

I certainly didn't get from her post that she thought YOU were stupid. I'm willing to bet if you went through the pain and hassle of getting them off, you'd be saying to yourself, "Well, that was a stupid thing to do!!" :rotfl2: It's sure not pleasant getting them off.

I find her to be one of the more level-headed, honest, and kind people on the boards, BTW.

Regarding the gums issue, I'll second the advice some of the other posters have given you, especially getting in to see a hygienist. I didn't care for mine properly and ended up having to get my gums scraped. I can't remember what it's called, but they basically pull your gums away from your teeth and scrape below the surface. :earseek: YOWZA!!! I seem to remember my bottom teeth being the worst.
