Taking back the Fiskar that I bought, is this better? (update, I took it back)

well. it says you need a 'cutting system' which is extra, to use it, and I don't know anything about that brand's cutters. For about the same price, you could get a creative memories cutting system, which I do know "works".

I wonder how much you would use such a tool. For squares, I use my paper trimmer. If I want them with rounded edges, I use a corner rounder on the corners.

I have a set of Creative Memories Circle and oval templates, bought when I was a new scrapper, but if I use them twice a year, that's a lot.

The most 'shaping' I do any more is to crop a photo with a square or round punch.

I agree with Linda. I bought 2 or 3 systems before I got the CM ones. I was so agravated with the others I finally just gave in and I love:love::love: my cm ones. I use them a lot with the kids books and cutting the pics and journaling boxes for them. In my own book I use them some but not as much. We actually have 2 sets cause mom kept "borrowing" mine.
HTH
I do still have fiskars ones but I trace the shape and cut it out.

Another vote for the Creative Memories Custom Cutting System. I've had mine for years and years. And am so happy they are finally offering a large circle. The large oval will be available in November (?).

I think I'd have to agree that you'd be better off going with CM--I did see another on HSN that looks to include the cutting system but really looks alot like CM's

Kitty, I think it is time to find yourself a Creative Memories Consultant! If you go to their website you should be able to put in your zip code and have it give you list of consultants. And have one bring you a catalog--they have the cutest Mickey albums and disney album packs. I ordered from my consultant a few weeks ago and can't wait for it to get here!

Return that darn Fiskars thing, it's terrible. I like the Curvy Cutter for circles and ovals but I would really like the CM system . I am going to save my money and get those.

Another vote for the CM - if you have a few friends who also scrap you could get together and each buy a differnet set of shapes. I am really tempted by the large circle, but as I've cut the largest circle shape I have ..... oooohhh, let me see.....NEVER:rotfl: I'm resisting for the moment;) But yes it does work, and I do use it from time to time, especially for pages with a lot of pics where all square/rectanlge looks a bit boring.

Another vote for the CM cutting system. It's a pricey set at first, but it will last you forever! I bought the circles and ovals in 1999 and use them all the time. I'm still using the original blades! I have a friend who bought a different system, used my CM one, and went out and bought the CM one because it's just so much easier to use. In 2002 I hosted a CM crop and as a "thank you" hostess gift I got other shapes that I use a lot - a hexagon and pentagon. I also got the jumbo circle as a thank you but I have honestly never used it.

OK Ladies, I took it back to Michael's today... Umm, I had a two coupons both for 40% off one item, well I used them both. Then at the check-out, I got another one good for next week for another 40% off.

Looks like I will be making a weekly trip to Michael's if they keep giving me a 40% off coupon!

Two questions:

One what is a crop?

And what is cricut?

Pictures of these things please....:flower3:

A "crop" is a get-together where you "crop" your photos. Possibly what you are planning on going to in November.

A "Cricut" is an electronic die cutting machine, aka, the best invention EVER! You can learn about it here. ;)

So with a cricut, would I still want to buy the Creative Memories cutter system??? Also looks like I can buy a cricut at my local BJ's. I am going to have to see what one cost.

Part of that depends on what you plan on using the cutting for- while with a cricut you can cut a circle out of a picture and it should be about right- with the template you can get exactly what you want- for cutting circles from patterned paper or cardstock a cricut is definately easier but for pictures I would suggest the cm system- even with a cricut.

Honestly Kitty, I would suggest that you just go ahead and start working with what you have and not worry about buying anything else at this time. You have plenty of things to get started and create a perfectly wonderful album with. As you get more and more into scrapbooking you will realize what you wish you also had and then can get more.

Certainly we all want to have everything-- all the latest gadgets and gizmos, but until you actually get your hands in there and put some pages together you won't know what your prefered style is, your prefered way of working and what sort of things you like and don't like. You could spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a whole lot of things you will never ever use.

As you meet other scrappers and talk to them and borrow their products and try them out you will realize what you like and don't like also. I have tried products that other scrappers love but I didn't. Friends may swear by one type of thing but I prefer another. That is one thing I love about scrapping, one size doesn't fit all and we can all be our own person, but we all get along!

As an example. I did get a Cricut earlier this year and love it, but only have one Cartridge. ( I have borrowed from a friend a few times) I was ready to buy a bunch more carts, and was trying to figure out what I really wanted. But then I looked into it more, talked to others and realized that I would rather have the software that will allow me to use the fonts that I already have on my computer--I have nearly 1000 fonts that I have downloaded over the years. If I had just rushed out and bought what I "thought" I wanted I would have a bunch of Cricut Cartridges that I probably would have realized months later I had no need for.
