Has anyone ever taken away something form a buffet at WDW? We have CP for breakfast and I love their food but get full very fast. Last time they had these chocolate muffins that were really good. Would I be able to take a couple to eat later?

Though many people sneak away with things stuffed into their bags, you are not supposed to take anything to go from a buffet. It's all you can eat - while you're there.

We love CP! Dh is addicted to the chocolate chip cookies....our server brought him 3 to take with us, we did not ask she just saw how much he enjoyed them and gave him some to go for a snack later.

*sigh* People are far too uptight.

For the price of a WDW buffet, let alone a WDW vacation, I have no issue what-so-ever taking an extra muffin, or some cookies, etc with me, and I pity the CM that actualy has the gall to say I can't bring a muffin back to my room. If you asked your server, which I don't feel you even need to, I promise you they would say it was fine. I can't imagine a CM ever saying anything, not in a million years.

Would they give you a take out box to fill with all sorts of food? No. That's extreme.

Establishments like WDW buffets throw away more food every day than you could possibly imagine. No server is going to give you a hard time about some muffins.

I have taken a cookie or a pastry that is left over on my DD's plate because she willeat it later since she ate hardly anything at the meal due to her excitment seeing the characters so rather than have it get thrown away, we bring it with us.

Now going up to get food specifically for us to eat later, I do not do.

No, it's not being uptight. It is just a matter of being honorable. Buffets present food options guests can partake of while they're there. Guests are not permitted to take food items out of the buffet restaurant.

I have never made a trip to the buffet just to get extra food to take with me....But if the boys have a cookie left on their plate I would take it for later, since it would just be thrown away anyway.

We were at Donald's breakfast in 2005 and the server suggested we get a couple of bananas or other fruit from the buffet for our ds for later.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. If the CM suggests you take something, or you ask permission, then I wouldn't see a problem.

Yes, people talking so dramaticaly about a single muffin that they will toss out dozens of at the end of the day, and insinuating I must be lacking in "honor" cuz I think a lady should be welcome to an extra muffin at the "happiest place on earth", are being outrageously uptight IMO. Feel free to disagree with me. To each their own.

In all the years my family has run establishments in the food industry I could never imagine telling a guest, who I want to welcome and feel at home and leave with a smile and the urge to come back, that they cannot take a single extra muffin with them, that is their favorite item in our establishment, and see the look on their face as they think "wow, what a jerk, I just paid 30 bucks for this meal and he made me feel horrible over a lousy muffin I could have piled 4 of on my plate earlier anyway". I can't imagine any manager at WDW disagreeing with me. I certainly would never hire such a GM. That's the perspective I'm coming from here, and the one I stand by.

I do many honorable things during the day. If someone wants to tell me I am not honorable because I feel a pleasant woman and her family should have an extra muffin after they probably paid $150 for breakfast, feel free. To each their own.

Oh yes they DO! At the Luau my DS got the children's meal which is served in a Styrofoam box , at the end he had 2 nuggets left and wanted to take them with him. As we were leaving the server stopped us and said we could NOT take them. He insisted we leave the box and food even after I showed him that all that was in there was the 2 nuggets! So Yes they do enforce the no food from a buffet. If you want to sneak them when you aren't supposed to I'm sure you can but you aren't supposed to. I am a very small eater and this is one reason I avoid all you can eat buffets.

While it might not seem like a big deal to some, I gotta agree with bicker. It's just not the right thing to do. Just because a restaurant throws food out at the end of the day, that's not justification. JMO.

You had a really awful server.

I personaly would have complained and asked to speak to a GM. I assure you other people, some already having posted in this thread, have had very different experiences with their servers. To be frank I'm amazed you let a crabby server deny your son his own food that you rightfully paid for him to eat.

I think I'd like to ask the carver to pack up the rest of the prime rib for me at Crystal Palace. It would be great to gnaw on while I'm walking around the MK. I could probably keep the Au Jus in my refillable mug. What do you think??

What establishments do your family run? Sounds like we could really make out there.

I think part of the issue here is sneaking food out versus asking or being offered. We've been offered beverages to go, and I'm sure if we had something easily portable left on our plates that we just couldn't eat, they would probably be happy to let us have it. There's nothing dishonorable about that. However, mentally justifying just taking the food because it cost X amount (which you knew it would before you decided to eat there)...I think that's why people here get upset---when people start justifying what they know they shouldn't do. Disney is a privilege, not an entitlement.

To the OP, I think if you just told the server how yummy you think the muffins are and you wondered if you could take one as you ran out of room too fast...I suspect you will be accommodated and you won't have to wonder if it was okay.

Luthien_Rei - I see that you're a newbie on the boards...this is quite possibly your first run-in with the DIS-police. I'll have fun watching this unfold. Don't you dare start a topic about refillable mugs...'cause then you're in for a real treat! ;)

While, in essence, I would agree that buffets are not meant to be place for stockpiling your food for the day, I would absolutely agree with Luthien that from a customer service standpoint (also having worked in a food/entertainment oriented business for 10 years), I can't see aggravating the guest for something as minor as this. I mean, I wouldn't expect CMs to let you take 3 muffins and 6 sausage links with you, but taking one muffin?

Anyway, to the OP, when you go to the buffet, take two of the muffins that you want. Eat one while you're there, take a nibble out of the other one and then the CM can't complain when you want to take it with you. 'Nuff said.

If your definition of "making out" at a restaurant is a server being kind enough to let a lady have an extra muffin, I don't want to imagine what kind of establishments you've had to dine in. Frankly, I'm not sure I'm at liberty to say who or where myself or members of my family have worked in this industry, but for the sake of your curiosity I'll say more than one establishment has been on Disney property, on sites owned by third parties.

All I've stated from the beginning is that somone, who might have saved for years to stay at WDW no less, shouldn't have to feel like a dishonorable beggar that the tar and pitchforks crowd at the DIS Forums are gonna come after, simply for wishing to have an extra muffin. I stated from the beginning that expecting to walk out with a to-go box, etc is extreme, but that I would feel awful if someone was denied a muffin and a smile on their way out, even more so over the impact it would have on the person's view of the establishment.

That's all. Lets not get overly analytical over a muffin, and let's put away the pitchforks now. I find it mind-boggling that some of you seem to be questioning that we run establishments putting the customer first, some of you who may very well have eaten at one of said establishments, and that I encourage others to be treated that way elsewhere. My family is an ethnic family from NY, where food is celebrated and kindness always offered, and we have always worked in this industry to make people smile. Somone being afraid to have an extra muffin or take some chicken nuggets with them is beyond my thinking. I would welcome them to take it. I fear my mindset and view is being lost over the internet. For those of you looking to debate and point fingers I'm not interested. Feel free to pass you opinions on to the OP.

You really think it is better to throw the food away then let someone take their muffin with them? WHY? I can not imagine how much food goes to waste every day at Disney. If the muffin is on your plate they can't do anything but toss it so you might as well take it. I am NOT saying you should get a container and take a whole meal.

Maybe they could just sell Mug 'O Meat to go.

Because buffets are all you can eat, the policy is that you can't take home leftovers. This thread is closed.
