Taking a small puppy to WDW?

We have a small Yorkie, he's a little bitty tiny feller. The whole family loves him silly and our next Disney vacation we will be gone for 12 days and we really dont wanna be away from him that long. Does anybody have any tips at all on taking a puppy with them? The villa that we are renting im not sure if they allow pets or not either. Not sure what I should do.

Will you be staying on or off property? I do know that Disney has kennels that you can place you dog into, but don't know much about them. I just know that I have seen the signs for the kennels on the way to the parks.

Maybe you can call Disney and find out more info., or call the place that you are staying to see if they allow pets.

The first thing you need to do is find out if they allow pets. If they dont you need to either find a good kennel/pet sitter/etc to watch your dog, or find a place that allows pets.

Are you really going to be spending time with the puppy during your 12 day vacation? Is the puppy going to be alone a lot of the time?

First thing you need to do is find out if the villa you are renting allows pets. If not, you'll have to board it someplace while you are in Orlando and plan time to spend with the puppy wherever you board it. If the villa is a DVC villa, pets are not allowed.

I worked for several years at a vet's office with a boarding facility. The little dogs especially got tons of attention from the staff and most dogs actually enjoyed boarding and being around the other dogs. At our facility all animals were required to be vaccinated, and flea and parasite free. If you can't take your dog along, check with your vet. If they don't provide boarding, they will be able to refer you to someone reputable.

I love my dog but I personally wouldn't want to be tied to going back to my hotel at a certain time to let him out or feed him or whatever. On a beach or camping trip, yes, but NOT at Disney World!

Well its a villa offsite. I figured that we would be seeing him in the evenings. BUT I dont think the villa we rented will allow pets so I guess I'll have to find someone to watch hm while we're gone.

The Disney Kennel at TTC does a nice job; or at least did many years ago. They took awesome care of our pooch - lil guy too.

I know that you already found out that you can't keep him at the villa, but not sure I would have recommended that anyways. Can he hold his tiny bladder for 12-14 hours or more? Most puppies can't.

As far as boarding, not sure that I would do that unless he had his full vaccinations. You didn't say how old he was. If he is young, I'd go with a pet sitter (visiting 3-4x/day) or let him stay with a family member or friend.

We leave our 18 month old shih tzu with our best friends during vacations...

...I just realized this isn't going to work if they come with us next trip...hmmm...maybe I'll talk them out of coming with us

Anyway! He loves it there, and I know he's being well looked after and loved just as much as if he were home.

If you are thinking of taking him with you, there are offiste villas that will allow pets...you would just have to pay an increased damamge deposit, usually, and maybe a little extra cleaning fee.

I would find a friend or family member that loves your little poochie as much (or nearly) as you do and leave the little guy with them. He is not going to see much of the family because of you being at the parks and on the road. He will get much more attention if staying home with someone because they could play with him all day. A lot less stress on him also with the travel and such. He might even get distraught by being left in a kennel or at an unfamiliar house all day. Pick someone he knows and let him relax with them while you are gone

Princess Hollie is the reason we camp. Fort Wilderness is one of the most wonderful campgrounds around. She is used to being alone during the day when we are at work. We hit the parks early, return around 3 or 4, walk the dog, eat dinner at the RV, then head back to the parks (if we have the energy). This seems to work best for us.

Anyone ever see a puppy in one of the parks??? I KNOW that it is not allowed but we have seen puppies and tiny dogs a lot of places where they are not allowed but not WDW.

Our "Precious" stays at Grandma's when we go anywhere including WDW.

guess you didn't have the puppy when you rented the villa. because there are pet friendly villa too.

brought Spicey to WDW when he was 3 months old. He loved it almost as much as I did. (his big sister was not nice and would have killed him). continued to bring him for his 21 years. He did excellent in the park and really did love people.

like the WDW kennels - but others don't. It is your decision. with Spicey I made time to be with him knowing it would take away from the parks. but that is also a choice.

he got his 3 to 4 walks a day - if he felt like it. It was always his choice.

Really, bringing a dog would not be worth the trouble. You've got other things you want to be doing. The dog doesn't care about going on vacation. Find a friend, relative, or dog hotel at home.

I'd leave the dog home, having a small dog of my own, i wouldn't want to leave her in a kennel, in the past I've found a reliable in home pet sitter and she's been very happy! And i was happier,b/c I didn't have to cut short vacation time doing stuff to walk the dog,etc. And dogs tend to get nervous while traveling,and are usually happier at home,or something close to it.... personally I dislike the WDW kennels, b/c they don't even walk them for you...and one time when I went in to the lost and found (same building)all I heard was a howling,unhappy dog..... I have either friends,or a great sitter i found near home take care of doggy...

I think Disney should do this!!! It could be part of the "Year of a Million Dreams" (doggie dreams that is....... remember the dog commercial of the 2 dogs dreaming to go to the Magic Kingdom????)

If Disney offered a special evening where the parks would be open to pets and their owners only (other guests attend at their own risk, so there would be no lawsuits or alergy complaints) SOOO many people would want to go to this!!!

Bring your doggie on the teacups!!!!!
Doggie Disney costume contest!!!
Watch Spectro with your Doggie!!! (no fireworks though, or there would be tons of howling!!!!)

I could just hear the snarling and see the fur flying now in line to get a picture with Mickey....
At least with my furbaby, it would be chaos, but fun!!! oh well, for now, I have plans to leave my darling Tinkerbell at home with my sister.....and she's just like her namesake,small,cute,with an ATTITUDE!!!! (My dog,not my sister )

We are renting a pet friendly villa this year since we have adopted two little puggies since our last extended visit to the Mouse. I priced out the cost of kenneling (in the pet suites of course) and it was going to be about $350. Our house rental is about $800 (tax included for 8 nights 11/18-26) including the pool heat (for a 4BR house with pool, hot tub, free WiFi, etc). Subtract off the $350 for the dogs and the house is only costing $450 for 8 nights. You can't beat that with a stick. Our boys will need to be walked once during the day, but we had planned to take a break in the afternoons anyway, so it won't be a big deal to go back. We also picked a rental in Rolling Hills, which is very close to the Sherberth Rd entrance to Disney, so it should be pretty quick to get back to the house. I will defintely post a trip report once we return.
