We are usually pretty commando about going to Disney World, we cram and usually are open to close. Plans are usually get a bunch done in the morning before parks are more crowded. We think the waterparks are a waste since we have option for waterpark near home. I can't understand why people would go to Splitsville when they can bowl at home. We try to get a half day in downtown Disney otherwise spend our time at the parks.

Having 4 kids is it worth it to miss a day at the park to check out different resorts? We would have to take the bus since we don't rent a car. Would it be exciting for the kids or boring?

As a teen, I enjoyed exploring resorts. My DD was 3 and 5 on our last two trips and she also enjoyed it. The Poly, Ft. Wilderness, and AKL are the highlights for us. There are things to do, including free movies, campfires, storytelling, etc. We find it a nice break from the commando park days.

Which resorts do you have in mind? Having to use the bus could make this a huge pain, unless you're sticking to the monorail resorts or the Boardwalk area.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is worth checking out, especially if you include a meal. The Polynesian is also worth exploring, especially if you stay for the fireworks.

When we explore the resorts it's usually one we have a meal reservation at and we try to participate in two activities and see the beach/playground area. The kids enjoy it and there isn't any extra transportation hassle because we would've already had to make our way there anyway. This year we are going towards the holidays and plan to check out the gingerbread display at the GF.

We enjoyed hanging out at Radiator Springs at Art of Animation. Our boys loved getting photos with the cast of cars :-)

We like to visit resorts but have never spent a whole day doing that. We usually do a few on each visit and they are scattered throughout our week. We usually do rope drop and stay at a park until around lunch time. Some days we'll leave the park and take a bus to a resort we want to visit. We'll have lunch there and do a little exploring. Then we'll head to the closest park or DS/DTD to catch a bus back to our resort. Some days we go back to our resort for the afternoon and then take a bus to a park or DS/DTD and transfer to a bus for a different resort where we'll have dinner and then head to a park for the evening.

DH and I visited all the resorts in one day on a ten day trip. But that was just us. I wouldn't do it with young children.

We're the same way, we usually just go hardcore at the parks every day we are there. This time around we decided to take one day off. We planned a character meal early breakfast at one resort, then will spend all afternoon at the pool, and then a dinner at Animal kingdom lodge. I'm excited try something new and to actually make use of the pool. We almost never spend time at our own resort because we're at the parks every minute!
