My husband and I, along with my parents would like to visit Disneyland in December 2005 (probably middle of the month) to enjoy the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the holiday celebrations. We are currently expecting twins - they will be about 8 months old at the time of the trip. Are we crazy to try this trip with such young babies? We will be flying, which could be a little cumbersome with the two, but other than that, I think it would be fun!

Anyone want to share their thoughts and/or recommendations?

Thanks!

I say go for it! I was always the type of mom who brought baby everywhere! (Well..I still 'am' a mom - but she is 8 now LOL). I did all sorts of things with her from 2 weeks old and onward... I think with twins you will need Daddy for sure, but I say go for it and have a blast! You can baby swap on the rides too!

Let's see, I'm trying to remember when my kids were 8 months old. If I'm not mistaken, that's right around the age where they are teething, give or take a month. If so, this could be tough due to the pain and fevers they're going through. This would mean they would be irritable during the flight, sleepless at night, and possibly fussy during the day. Of course, I may be wrong but I could have sworn this was my kids age at the time of teething. I would research this more regarding this age, though.

I think with all the adults you are planning to go with, you should be fine. I would not do it without that extra help though!!!

I think as long as you have low expectations...such as just wanting to see the decorations and go on a few rides you will be fine. 8 month olds take two naps a day, which can really cut into a theme park vacation. And 8 month olds need lots of "gear" like diapers, wipes, food, bottles, strollers, car seats, etc, etc. And the teething thing can make a formerly delightful little person into a crank. And babies this age just love their routines, so it will be hard to have them in a new bed, waking up at new times, eating at different places.

With the help of all the adults it could be fun, but again, I would just warn you to have low expectations of what you will get to do. It will NOT be one of those vacation where you see and do everything there is to do. They most likely will not like the characters, although some little ones this age do, so you probably wont be seeing many of those either. They will enjoy all the pretty decorations, particularly the ones that move. With that many adults you will get to take turns going on some rides.

Have fun, just make sure that is the kind of vacation you want to go on before you commit to it. It sounds fun, but it will also be a lot of work. When my boys were little (they arent twins but are 19 months apart then 14 months apart) I would always say yes to these kinds of things. Then find myself alone in tears in the hotel room with the three of them while everyone else went to go have fun with my daughter cause the boys were cranky and needed a break from the stimulation. Dont let this happen to you. :)

Okay, Okay, I am too old (48) to respond--- LOL....but my response would be "No". BUT, I am sure you are just too excited and plan on going anyway....LOL, so I would totally agree with Sno Brite, and really try to keep your expectations low. Be happy with experiencing the LAND with family.....get in a few photos with characters.....relish the fact that your folks will be there to watch the munchkins while you go on a ride or two......
If you think you will/want to "do it all" or at least lot's....you may be coming home in tears.
Good luck with your decision and enjoy..............

We took our daughter to DL at 3 months, and then to WDW when she was 6 months.

I'd recommend getting an onsite hotel (or one of the ones across the street), because you *will* be going back to the hotel room for naps for your kids. You don't say whether you'll be breast or bottle feeding (perhaps it's something you don't know the answer to at the moment), and that will make some difference, since the breastfeeding means *you* have to be around to feed them.

Also, check with your family to see how much help they're willing to be with the kids. When we went to WDW with our daughter, we took 2 grandparents, 2 aunts and an uncle. All of them said they'd help look after the baby, and most days we were the ones stuck going back to the hotel room to make sure she got her nap. We did get *some* time off, but very little (and much less than we expected).

That all being said, as long as you go in with realistic (and pretty low) expectations about how much you'll be able to do, you should have a good time. You can go on all the dark rides with the babies, visit characters (depending on their personalitites, ours was fine with 'em), watch the people, swim if it's warm enough, visit with your family, etc.

Enjoy your babies once they arrive & good luck making the decision about whether or not to go to DL.

We took our triplets to Disneyland when they were 15 months old and had a great time. It was me, my husband and one grandma. Having triplets is demanding no matter what we do and we just got used to it. We had a 5 year old at the time too and he really wanted to go. We had spent a lot of time at home just taking care of them and it was so great to be out doing something a little different. Good luck with your decision.
