There has been a lot of strong discussion pro and con about a lot of different aspects of DVC. Topics from ease of getting reservations, paramount importance of calling at 11 months, which resort, honesty of DVC sales professionals etc., etc. Some people coming here for info about buying may feel that if it's that a big hassle, why bother? Other new purchasers may be in a panic trying to decide when they need to call. I just wanted to give some perspective.

A few years ago there was lots of discussion here about different changes at the resorts themselves. People were reporting how different things (shower heads, towels, etc.) were being replaced differently and they were very unhappy. Others were talking about how every CM was rude, buses were late, grounds were not being kept as nice etc., etc. I was worried about the changes I was going to see when I went "home" since I wanted this to be a special trip for family. I was ready to do battle if necessary to be sure my trip went smoothly. I worried prior to the trip. Guess what? Things had changed alright...they had gotten even better than my last trip. Little things were all back in order and CMs were great. I felt a little foolish that I had believed I would see drastic negative changes.

Moral -- Put all the info here into your thought process but don't take any of it, including my own opinions, as gospel.

Pams right. Sometimes when I read all of the posts here, including my own, you can get a little frazzled. Make no mistake I love my DVC! I don't think we could have done anything better for our families vacation. I would recommend DVC to anyone.

Whenever you are spending your money you can always find areas that can be improved but thanks to Pam for the wise comments about keeping things in perspective. We all joined DVC to keep our sanity not to detract from it.

Pam,
Excellent post and right on. Thanks for the perspective. :)

Pam I agree with you and I wanted to tell you also that one of your other posts made me think too. This board is about sharing info. If there is a problem that you are upset about the best thing to do is to tell DVC management directly. I have always done this in the past, and have been mostly very pleased with how they handle things. We can vent here, but really nothing is going to change things or people's minds. Just my 2 cents.

and you are right. I've been lurking around here for quite some time only really jumping in lately. I've been a member for 2 years and am really 100% happy with my purchase in the DVC. I think that lots of others around here are as well, but we don't always come across that way.

In fact I'm so happy that it's tough for me to understand why many other people who are in a sound financial position and visit WDW like we do *wouldn't* want to join. I got myself entrenched in a thread over on the resorts board trying to inform folks about the pros of the DVC as many people just don't seem to fully understand the benefits. Sometimes though, you just have to give up.

Thanks for the gentle reminder though Pam.

Hey Laura I'm in on that Resort thread, too. But, I've got to give it up. It's interesting that all those "investors" appear to be in high interest returns that carry no risk. ;) We'll never get through to the folks who are hanging in there arguing for $200 condos in Hawaii!

thanks Pam - you said it girl. This forum is great for venting and *****ing but always remember that we love the DVC because it makes us enjoy ourselves, our families, our kids, etc. It is truly one of lives better things.

Amen! I agree. We went for our first visit in December to VB and OKW and were prepared to be disappointed somewhere in our stay but not only were we not disappointed, we loved every minute of it. We can't wait for our first stay at our home resort BWV in October. We just used points to stay at DL Grand Californian and it was outstanding also. Everything from our sales rep to MS, the waitlist, and all our accomodations were incredible and handled without issue. We got several "Welcome Homes" and got the view we wanted in both places. Our only regret - we didn't purchase in 1994 when we first looked at DVC.

I agree 100%--have owned since 1991 and have had 99.9% great vacations.
Grinches Beware--You are not welcome here !!!!

I don't know why I keep trying to explain the pros of the DVC in that thread on the resort board. It's sort of like that line spoken by Michael Corleone in Godfather III..."Just when I thought I was out....they pull me back in!!!" ;o). I shouldn't have gotten in the middle of it in the first place. Sometimes the DVC is like politics or religion....you ain't changing my mind and I'm not gonna change yours. The only time I get irked is when the "unwise financial" stuff gets mentioned in reference with the DVC.

I would *love* to know how many of the DVC naysayers have that 10-20 grand invested in that vacation providing money market. It's always one of the major arguments against the DVC....but I'm betting that most of the folks who use that excuse don't fall into that category at all.

And that's not what it's about anyway. It's all about getting to Disney however you get to Disney. On-site or off, All-stars or BWV, cash or DVC points.....as long as you go. Just don't use that tired-old "poor financial decision" mark against us DVCers. It's been disproved time and time again.

Oh well, if they don't get it, I guess it's not my job to convince them.
