While on the ship get your kids picture taken any time you have the chance. Shutters puts out the pictures throughtout the day.

It was fun to stop in and see them each day.

... and the photographers took advantage of me. This is where I spent most of my spending allowance. It was unfortunate for me that the took many great shots of my kids.

It must be my weakness, as I spent more money on pictures on our Alaska cruise last summer than I did on anything else.

Don't but more than 1 copy of any picture. They are not marked on the back so when we got home we took the picture to Kmart and made copies of several of them for others. We also shrunk a 8x10 to 2 5x7's.

It wouldn't have mattered whether they were "marked" or not. The company (forget the name) allows you to make copies of the prints. They have a release you can download from their site to allow you to do it if your local photo place isn't sure.

However, if you are going for a short cruise, decide how many "photo ops" you are likely to have before you buy a package. We bought the 10 picture package for our four day - and had a hard time finding ten good photos (there were only twelve pictures of us total). But we didn't do a lot of the character greetings (where there is often a photographer), and didn't wait in many lines just to have a picture taken.

I'm at a total loss of how much to budget for a 7 day cruise. I'd like to purchase several (probably 4-6) pictures. How much should I could on spending?

I think it was around $80.00 for a package that included 10, 8x6 photos.

We jumped in lines any time they weren't to long for pictures. We bought the 10 picture package and split it with my aunt. We could have easily bought 10 on our own though and we were just on a four day cruise.

My suggestion is to buy the 10 picture package. Each day drop by shutters and pick out photos you like. They give you a card that they mark off each time you take a photo. You can bring back pictures and exchange them if you fins others you like more throughout the cruise.

We also bought a couple of 8x10's. THere is a package for those too. If you buy five you get a free frame.

On our last trip, there were 11 of us. We bought the package, moved our pictures around everyday behind the newest pictures so they weren't taken away. If we didn't like, we discarded immediately.

Then made one purchase (as a package) brought pictures home, scanned them all in and burned CD's for all the grown kids and their families and now everyone has the pictures!

to get the release, go to www.image.com Image is the name of the company that handles the on board photography. You can print the release form from their web site & make everything "legal".

Although I think that this might be a good practice I need to warn everyone that I was told by the Shutters staff that this was not allowed, and that if I wanted a photo I should take it with me then. However, you are only allowed to swap three photos in a package, so be careful about what ones you choose. One night, before a show, I grouped nine photos of my family together, to review with my husband after the show. When we returned Shutters was packed, and we decided to come back the next day. The next day my entire stack of pictures had dissappeared. I searched twice that day, and again the next day to no avail. Obviously someone had dumped the entire stack. The manager and I spent an hour and a half searching through the proof sheets trying to find the missing photos. We were only able to find four. Very dissapointing. Shutters policies seem a little un-customer friendly to me. Two suggestions for improvements on Shutters - 1) When I purchase a package I should be allowed unlimited exchanges, so that I have the freedom to share the pictures with others in my party, and get their opinions on the pictures (this would also clear the unbearable congestion we found some nights), or 2)When a package has been purchased there should be some sort a file area where I can place my prints, for later review. Sort this by room number, last name, tag number, whatever, just anywhere to place the photos. As it turns out Shutters lost money from me. I easily could have gone with a fifteen or possibly 20 photo pacakge, but because of the lost prints I ended up with the ten. Personal opinion, Shutters was the most poorly run part of the ship.

We had no problem swapping. So if there are pictures you like take them with you for sure. It is pain searching for them later.

Am I to understand right....you have to purchase a photo package at the beginning of the cruise? Why not just let them take the pictures, then go in when I want and choose the ones I like. Then purchase what photos I really want at the end. I can understand that this might make it conjested in there, but if I buy a package for 10 and don't find 10 I like, can I get my money back? Seems to me there has to be a better way?? Thanks for the input!

No you don't have to purchase a package at the beginning.

But everyday they put out all the new pictures and take away many of the previous days photos, they go into boxes. If you wait until the end of the cruise you may not be able to find picture.

You can start out just buying a photo or two and then bring back your receipts and upgrade to a package later if there are enough that you want

I also lost pictures when I stacked them (about 6). They were gone when we came back later that night.

FYI we found pictures up in shutters sometimes less than 2 hours after they were taken.

The whole stacking thing is iffy - we did it with a couple of things - mainly the larger 8 x 10 from Key West night until the formal shots came out on Monday. Then made some decisions. Maybe because they were the formals (with a couple candids behind) and it was only a couple days no one messed with them.

I bought the smallest package at the start of our 7 day cruise and upgraded as needed throughout. I usually picked up the candids as we went along. I don't think I missed any, but it is hard to tell as my kids were not always with me.

One suggestion I would have is that the photographers try to catch more candids of the teens, at least on the excursions. Since they seem to do most of their stuff away from us I would have liked some photos of them in Common Grounds (Stack) and on their excursions.
