I'm going to begin this little rant with a quote about paranoia.
"There's something inherently human about paranoia. Given the increasing scarcity of rational things to fear in 20th century society, we dream up theories whose inevitable result is the chaotic disruption of our comfortable, orderly life-usually with dastardly consequences. I think we get a perverse thrill that comes from it."
I've seen so many posts deriving from the illusions that VMK is on the brink of shutting down. My response to that is simple:
Relax
People who are subject to the theories that VMK is shutting down are getting worked up over little bits and pieces of information which may not fit together to the ultimate conclusion that VMK is ending. We shouldn't let the fear of VMK's close affect the amount of pleasure we derive from the game.
And quite frankly, if it is ending, then we shouldn't be looking towards the end. We should look back on all the great memories we have. Whether it is getting the item you've longed to get since you started playing, winning your first best guest award, or even those long nights partying with your friends until closing, there is a fundamental reason why we play VMK: it provides some sort of pleasure.
If VMK has to end, then we should make it such an end to be worthy of remembrance. However, until you see the "we are shutting down for good" message from the makers of the game, relax. Have fun. That's what this game should be about, not about causing paranoia over the end.
For if we start worrying too much about the end, we'll miss out on everything we've gotten in our journey.
