Luke was on 3rd with two outs and the next batter up got put down. (Thrown out.)
Their side of the field went wild naturally.
So they come up to bat and score 4 runs in that inning. Our boys were obviously rattled. They had gone up to another field to watch another game. They were brought back to our field, put in the dugout and told they had to go out there and win the game all over again. Hard to explain when you don't even understand how it happened yourself.
Sometime during the fifth inning my mom's cell phone rang. It was my sister and she had just been in an accident on the interstate in Cincy. Mom was screaming her name and jumping up and down. She couldn't hear what she was saying. She was hurt, we didn't know how badly yet. Mom and dad took off to get up there.
Obviously this took my mind out of the game somewhat.
Our turn up to bat and we came back with a couple of runs. I can't remember what inning what happened now. It's all a big messy blur to me.
DHB is better at recalling the sports shorts. And I was so distracted worrying about my mom and dad flying up the interstate and what was going on with my sister, who was taking care of my nephew, etc.
I called mom to see if they had been able to get her back on the phone. Mom was crying, freaking out, very upset. All they knew is that the ambulance was on it's way, she had been hit from behind and she was hurt and my nephew (her son) was with her but apparently not hurt. I did my best to calm her down, my sister has been in quite a few accidents, some her fault some not. She just has bad luck on the road.
So while waiting to hear something about the accident, the game continued.
I have to add here that all our parents handled themselves very well, as did our kids. Their side continued to be obnoxiously loud and carried away with every play they made.
We tied the score at 10-10 in the sixth inning. Daniel knocked in the tying run. I think we ended up playing 10 innings?, correct me if I'm wrong
DHB. Time after time they came in and out of the field, I lost track.
As it turned out, we had a runner on third and up came Derek, who plays first and pitches.
HOMERUN!!!!!!
Out of the park! Homerun!!!!
We went nuts! I think I may have yelled a thing or two at the opposing crowd. Well, Ok, I'll admit, I definetly did. Something like "HOW DO YA FEEL NOW?!" "THAT'S THREE TIMES! (we've beat you) IS THAT ENOUGH YET?!" "WANNA PLAY AGAIN!?" Stuff like that. Everybody was cheering and clapping and whooping it up and we were all the way across the field from them and I was yelling in happiness, not angry sounding, so I feel no regret. I'm sure they didn't even hear me. Don't care if they did though.
It was such a great victory. Nothing better than winning a game like that.
We took the team out to Dairy Queen (where else?) and celebrated.
We play in the championship game tonight at 6:00.
I'm so proud of our boys! I do not care if we get dog-stomped tonight. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_108.gif' border=0></a>
