Have I ever gone on a road trip with my guy?

I love road trips. My only problem is I've gotta be in the driver's seat. The only time I give up control is when I'm tired and I mean really tired. We've driven to St. Louis I don't know how many times and back and I'm behind the wheel most of the time.

Have a great time CourtasanSatine. It's great to hear that you two will be able to be with each other and not have to worry about anything else. :)

Just popping in before bedtime.

Great QOTD CS!

DH and I have been on lots of road trips. Before we were married, but after I moved out of my parents house, we took so many wonderful road trips that summer. It was a wonderful, free feeling we had waited so long for. I didn't even have a driver's license when I left home (and I was 18!). Anyway, I had my learner's permit and had just bought a car (payments, that is). It was a 1980 Citation (they say you never forget your first one;) ). No AC, AM radio, no tape player, basically it was four-door watermelon on wheels. But the places we went in it! I bought it in 1987, used with 18,000 miles on it. In one year we put 50,000 miles on it. I don't even know how many road trips we took.

It's so funny now how spoiled we are. The new van has AC, of course, power sliding doors, DVD player, CD and tape, like about 20 cup holders and it even has real plugs for appliances! And now I can't stand to drive for more than 3 hours! We fly everywhere we can now.

But the road trips were fun. If I had to put a number, counting the all the ones up to today I would say, hmmm, maybe 40 to 50? And most of them were before we had kids.

Thanks for the kind remark RRBB. I get a glimpse of the man he is becoming every now and again and I feel proud, excited and ready to cry all at once. He's a great kid, very sweet and caring. But boy that mouthing off sometimes..... But he always comes back and hugs me and apologizes.::yes::

Q&A:

Allergies? No
Favorite flower? Daisies
DH's height? 6'2"
Worn braces? Nope, but I wore a rubber band in middle school to correct 2 teeth.
Wear glasses? Yes, when I'm not wearing my contacts. I'm blind. But I love my frames. They're my "screenwriter" glasses.
Flipped the bird? All the time, baby!
Road trip with DH? Yes, to Kentucky; we'll go to Alabama for Thanksgiving this year. DH's family is all Dixie!

Hi, been on a few road trips, but we are mainly home-bodies.

Went to a wedding in Soel (Korea), another in Bermuda (where they make the shorts), A funeral in Austin (by car), a few trips to San Antonio, San Francisco, Oh, and about a gazillion times to WDW!!!!

Talk to y'all later...

:bounce:

QOTD: Raod trips? But of course! We took many......
--back and forth to each other's schools our senior year...he was in Atlanta and I was 5 hours away in Charleston...sometimes we'd go to the other, sometimes meet at his parents house
--lots of weddings, back to Charleston for birthday weekends, just going away for the weekends, etc.
--back to see family since we move around a lot
--DisneyWorld (from Pensacola and Jacksonville, FL and from Virginia)

Too many to count before we had kids! Now that we have kiddos, it's just back to see family and to Disney and to family events :) Don't get to do those "just get in the car and drive" trips much these days...but I sure did love them! When the kids are grown we plan on buying a little roadster and getting back to our trips :)

Ok, I'm going to bed as soon as the next load of laundry is ready for the dryer.

In the meantime, may I share a few pictures (that didn't turn out very well due to lighting) from Holly's dance recital? Great!

Holly is the one in the center.

Sorry, they are such poor quality. I should've bought a different speed film I guess. Next year I'll know better. It was 80's themed music and their song was "What I Like About You" by the Romantics. It's funny how many commercials are using that song right now. ToonDisney, Toyota, TGI Fridays and one other one that I can't think of right now. Every time one comes on, she jumps up and breaks it down baby!

Ok, I hear the spin cycle! Whoopie! I'm wiped out.

Nighty-night!

I've never seen a road in the sky  so I don't think the trips to Korea or Bermuda or San Francisco count.

We drove down to San Antonio once so we go on the Scooby-Doo ride at Fiesta Texas. Another time we drove out to Shreveport/Bosier City for a night at the Horseshoe Hotel/Casino. Our road trips are usually just overnight (Saturday-Sunday) because ohanafamily works 6 days/week.

Love the recital pics llebrekniT. Brings back lots of good memories. I took dance lessons for 16 years. First year was ballet but that was too slow so I switched to tap for the next 15. Also for a few years I took baton lessons. We did some really neat things for recital, after all the baton competitions were over. One year we did tap/baton - tap dancing and baton twirling at the same time. That took lots of coordination, let me tell you.

Hey, that made me think of a new QOTD, I guess for tomorrow.

What kind of after-school lessons did you take as a kid? I just answered, dance lessons. When people asked if I played an instrument I used to answer, "Yes, the tap shoes."

Hey everyone!

Just so you know, those pics llebrekniT posted don't come close to during Holly justice. She was absolutely precious out there. That girl is a STAR!

Road trips: before we had the kids, DH & I did a few road trips. The furthest was to Chicago, I think. We went to see "The Other Ones" now known as "The Dead" (basically the Grateful Dead after Jerry Garcia died). We've driven to Florida twice with the kids. We are going to a wedding in Rochester NY in May & we had planned on flying, but now we are thinking of driving. I am actually looking forward to the drive. It will be strange without the kids. No crying in the backseat, no "are we almost there". Now, back when I was in college, I went on many road trips. DH ended up being at a lot of the same places, we just didn't go together. I've driven to Key West, Florida (too far!), NYC, Philly, Hamilton Ontario Canada, Las Vegas, Oakland/San Francisco. Tons more...too many to name. Most were to see The Grateful Dead or Widespread Panic.

Good Night everyone!

RRBB, I can do the time step!
That's it. Once someone showed me 'shuffle off to Buffalo' but I don't remember it. So, in October, will you show me how?
Also PixieMagic twirls....or did, that is, for many years.

We need to have a TAGLIARCHY talent show! So many frustrated performers in this group!

Oh, here's a special message for RickinNYC.......Delswife wants you to finish your trip report!
She told me so, herself, tonight in DISchat. SO GET GOING BUSTER! .

iluvtink, who did you like tonight on American Idol? I thought LaToya was by far the best. I also liked Camille (from Hawaii). I feel bad for her because she seems so nervous. The football player guy was soo bad & super cheesy. He is just not a very good singer at all. Actually, I don't think any of the guys are good except George.

Question of Tomorrow: I took gymnastics from 6th grade through 11th. I was a cheerleader in Junior & Senior High School. hmm, no musical instruments, though.

Ok, I'm really going to bed now.

DBF and I are in planning for our trip to DFW,mostly finding cheap eats(that are open late) and shortcuts to Six Flags

QOTD 3/24: after-school lessons?

Well, everything but sports unfortunately. I took tap for 10 years, jazz for 5, clogging for 5 (no snickering...I'm from the south, remember!). Took violin lessons and played in the youth orchestra for 5 or 6 years. Did cheerleading for 2 years, Girl Scouts for 11 years (all my school years), co-led a brownie troop for 6 years, did HS yearbook 4 years (everything including editor), and "did the books" for the basketball teams for 3 years...all my friends played so by doing the books, I got to go on all the ROAD TRIPS!! I was the same kind of activity hound in college ......sorority, student government, student alumni associates, panhellenic, college activities board, honor society, yearbook, RA, etc.

Looking back, I wish my parents had put me in some sort of sports. To this day I regret that I can't play a game of volleyball or throw the bball around without looking like a geek or huring myself!! DH and I hope to take golf lessons together one day....

QOTnextD:

I took ballet/tap/jazz from 6 til 16. I started playing piano and full organ when I was 12. I was a brownie until I kept getting sick on the field trips our troop would take. I dabbled with the guitar, track/field, contemporary dance and all kinds of other stuff. Geez, no wonder my parents were always broke.

Ugh, now my youngest has what my oldest had. That means I'm up til the wee hours of morning.

I can sympathize! DS has had it for a week now....DD had it over the weekend, but with no signs Monday, went back to school today. DH and I have started drawing straws for changing DS's diaper....ugggghhhh!! With that and the vomiting, had to change his sheets 3 times on Saturday :( No more throwing up but he can't still can't seem to shake the bug :( Sending PD your way, and sprinkling some on DS, too!

Thanks bunches kadaten. PD coming right back at you and yours!

PS You know, the only thing that really bothers me now is the fact that I know I'm gonna get it next. ((shudder))

QOTD: Dance lessons(jazz, hip hop and tap) from 5th grade through 12th.Various clubs all through HS and show choir

Mornin' y'all,

Drivin' halfway to Cinci today to meet two of the other moms going on our July trip to plan PS's and stuff... makes the trip seem a little closer - hooray!

QOTD - after school I took piano lessons for a little while in third grade, 'til the teacher told my mom she was wasting her money! :teeth: Otherwise I was in BlueBirds (Campfire Girls) then Girls Scouts when we moved, so I never got my fly up wings. :( I was a Pom-Pom girl in H.S. and Lucy in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.

llebrekniT - Recital pix are great to see - can you post a video of Holly? I went to my first recital to see my friends' girls last year. I wish mine had wanted to take dance, now. Especially the little girls are soooo cute!

kadaten and disneyluvers - sending you tons of PD and invisible germ barriers to keep you safe. Hope this scourge leaves your house soon and kiddies feel better.

CourtasanSatine - on AI last night, LaToya was also my favorite, but I loved Amy as well! I don't know why more of them didn't pick upbeat songs ... the judges like to see personality. Poor John Stevens (is that the redhead?) ... I wish we could see some of his personality. I thinik George is the best singer, too, and I just can't stand Matt and his sucking up to the camera and being a jerk to Simon. Bad form!

Laura - are you going to the Columbus DIS meet on April 23rd?

I'm leaving some glazed chocolate Dunkin' Donuts and chocolate chip crepes out for breakfast, and coffee, in case anyone's hungry.

Have a good day everybody! Anyone want to meet me this evening on the deck for perfect strawberry margaritas?

:) iluvtink

Good morning everybody!

Hmmmmm, where is my breakfast? (In other words, where in the blazes is that iluvtink?)

Not sure what to do today. Bills are paid, house is pretty clean, the laundry is mostly caught up. Started sorting stuff for the vacation yesterday. I need to wrap birthday presents.

Holly really got lucky. Not only will she be in WDW on her b-day, since she will be there on her b-day, she gets her birthday gifts early, before we go. Can't wait until we get back because it's right back to school, then it will be Easter weekend, and I just can't make her wait until after. I'd feel like a mean mama.

QOTnextD:
I was a brownie .......

This just made me laugh. When Daniel was little he always wanted a bedtime story about when he was a baby, or when Daddy or I were little. I had pretty much told all I could think of about me and was fresh out of stories. So I was searching for one really when I said "When I was a little girl I was a Brownie." His eyes got huge and his mouth dropped open and he just stared at me. When I realized what he was picturing, I about fell out of the bed laughing. Well, I guess you had to be there for it to be funny.

QOTD: re: after-school stuff.
"I have had no formal training"

Get it? :teeth:

My parents never really signed me up for any lessons. I was a cheerleader for a while, a Brownie, girl scout and I can remember staying after to tutor kids in my class who needed extra help in 6th grade.

Gotta run, back soon!

Oh, wait! New QOTD: What is your favorite candy bar<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_1_113v.gif' border=0></a>?

Mine is tied between a Butterfinger<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_47.gif' border=0></a> and a Mounds, depending on my mood.
