Good Morning everyone!!!
Happy Friday.
RickinNYC, OK I think it's nice that Steinbrenner pulled $100,000 out of his wallet for your organization, but GIVE ME A BREAK! The players' salaries total $186 million this year for the Yankees. He could only give $100,000? I think each of the players should have given $100,000. Jeter, A-Rod, & Sheffield should have given $1 million a piece. JMHO.
So, what "screaming girl movies" do you have planned for the weekend?
Have a great day!
Well, as much as I'd like to agree with you (and I do to a point), they honestly could have given us zippo, squat, nada, zilch.
There are a TON of HUGE mega corporations that demand (not inquire or ask) to do some gigantic volunteer project for 80-100 of their employees. The conversation goes something like, "Hi, I'm with XYZ and we decided that we want to volunteer with you guys."
I respond "Great" and ask a few questions and start giving them info. And without fail, I get the next statement, "Oh wait, we have about 90 employees who want to volunteer their time on Monday, August 23 between 9:30am and 12:00pm."
And they are NOT flexible no way, no how. They position their "inquiry" as a flat statement, in a manner that basically means I have no choice, I WILL accept what they want.
And the clincher? The corporation has either not donated a dime (no joke) or they have donated but not in more then three or four years.
So I tell them I'll call them back, put together a cost benefit analysis, notate how many of our own staff would be involved, how many trucks, etc... then I create a proposal stating how much it'd cost our organization out-of-pocket to work with the corporation following their own terms. Usually is between two to four thousand bucks in total.
And again, no joke. When I do this, using my twelve years of business experience backing me up, not a single corporation has ever responded positively. They, without fail, thank me and look for another non-profit.
I figure, if they're going to "volunteer" their services, but are inflexible, and they aren't donors, I'm going to force them to donate before I'll work with them.
So, as far as the Yankees are concerned, I say "good for them!" They at least did some free marketing, held a food drive (got 5,000 pounds), created a PSA, and gave us $100,000. A LOT more than most corporations do for us.
Now, back to a more cheerful and favorite topic, screaming girl movies. I don't know what I'll watch. I have a ton as you all know. I usually crack open a beer, grab a bag of junk food and thumb through them until one catches my eye.
Y'know, I just realized that gay or not, I'm a typical guy. When Joe is around, we don't usually have any junk food in the house. I never am the one to "crack open a beer." We eat healthy, blah, blah, boring, blah. But when he's away, I buy a six pack, some Doritos, and order in a pizza. Woo hoo! Love it!
