ARRRRRRRRRIBA!!! (Isn't that what they say in Mexico?)

Okay, so I'm Spanish-challenged. I think I'm more challenged than I want to be!

Is there a party here at the pool tonight? I'm only 6 pages behind in my reading. I was last here when Rick offered books from Joe, so I guess I'm reading-challenged too.

Ohana, have you read The Eight since I recommended it???

Okay, I borrowed a bottomless margarita machine from La Cantina ... it does every flavor imaginable ... even macadamia bittersweet chocolate... go for it. I'm taking one with me back to the house to work on the Dreaded Fractions Homework with Katie, and will check back in when she goes to bed. We need prayers and PD ... all there is to give... for the DFH tonight.

adios 'til later... Happy Cinco de Mayo!

CS. Have you read any Christine Feehan....her "Dark" series is good and HOT HOT HOT. I just finished some by S. Kenyon and liked them very much too.

OK, caught up...sorry no color at work.

Books: I read at least a book a week, so I've read quite a few::yes::

Some favorites: LOR Trilogy (of course)
Dune
Magnificent Ambersons
The Robe (because I got an A+ on my oral book report!)
Exodus
all Jane Austen
Jayne Eyre (read it when I was 12...cried my eyes out)
Mists of Avalon
lots of SciFi, Mystery and romance stuff

Hey RickinNYC or Ohanafamily see if you can help me with this book:
main character is an English pilot....while plane is in the air WWIII breaks out...because of all the counter attacks the blasts cause the planet to tilt on it's axis...there's some Russian people on a plane too....they all end up in Antartica at a navel base cause they figure out that's going to be the best place after the climate changes and no fall-out problems......know the name of that? LOVED IT and would love to read it again.

OK must head home now.....I'm in for the Cinco de Mayo celebration! Want my margarita on the rocks with salt, thank you very much.

Hey all, dinner was delish but I ate too much. Didn't even have room for the fresh pinapple I picked up yesterday.

Anyone watch the Bachelor? The best part tonight was the preview for next week. Looks like the one that didn't get a rose tonight will be back next week to crash one of the "Fantasy" dates. I swore I wasn't going to watch this season, but the guy we workout with has told us about it over the last few weeks. And since he was on an airplane last week I watched for him and gave the update this morning. We'll probably watch next week to see the sparks fly but otherwise I don't really care about it, except for the amusement value.

QOTD: Favorite Books
I can't think of actual titles, but I used to love reading Barbara Taylor Bradford books. She had really strong female characters in her early books. Then I read a couple that didn't impress me so I stopped reading her. The last few years I've loved reading just about anything by Nora Roberts - not really into the books she's written under the name J.D. Robb though.

Depplyinluv, have you read the rest of the Winkle in time series (Swiftly Tilting Planet and Wind at the door if memory serves me) They were all quite enjoyable.

The Chronicles of Narnia was pretty good if you can get past all of the Christian Science references and can deal with the series ending the way it does... No Spoiler from me. I enjoyed it, and liked the values in it, but the religion is implicated too strongly.

If you like Sci-Fiction, I highly recommend Robert Heinlein. One of my all time favorite books is "The Sixth Column; I keep getting the number wrong...It is also known as The Day after Tomorrow.

Excerpts
[The camera] came to rest on great masses of humanity, men, women, children, huddled, jammed, behind barbed wire. The pick-up came down close enough to permit the personnel of the Citadel to see the blind misery on the faces of the crowd, the wept-out children, the mothers carrying babies, the helpless fathers.
They did not have to watch those faces long. The pick-up panned over the packed mob, acre on acre of helpless human animals, then returned to a steady close-up of one section.
They used the epileptigenic ray on them. Now they no longer resembled anything human. It was, instead, as if tens of thousands of monstrous chickens had had their necks wrung all at once and had been thrown into the same pen to jerk out their death spasms. Bodies bounded into the air in bone-breaking, spine-smashing fits. Mothers threw their infants from them, or crushed them in uncontrollable, viselike squeeze.

He wrote on a children's level, but not a talking down to children. Every one of his books is well thought out, and makes sense. They make you think...OK, he is definitely one of my all time favorite writers.

:bounce:

ohanafamily i did read the rest of madeline l'engle's books in that series as well....they were good too. As far as the chronicles of narnia i got sick of reading them after the magicians nephew...i didnt want to read the horse and his boy...

i found the chronicles of chrestomanci after looking for cat books and its actually a good book but ic ant find the sequel anywhere...

isnt that giong to be a movie, the day after tomorrow'? sounds good though, ill have to go to b&n soon and possibly purchase it!

thanks for the recommendations:)

What do you do about someone who you think is nice and kind and then turn out to be not so nice ? It has really been bothering me that I found out someone has just kinda been pretending to be a friend and really isn't . Do you "Out" this person and confront or just let it rest and hope that they see how really controlling and rude they are .?

Hmmh, Tough one...I would say it depends on the Situation. If it was someone you work with every day, I would tread carefully. I would not confront them, but let them know you have heard some things that you feel are not true. If you have definite proof, and it will destroy your working relationship you might choose to ignore it and file it away as knowledge....

Case in point, The Rabbi who married RRBB and myself was supposed to be the Cantor (singer if you will) at Her sister's wedding many years ago. He had to cancel at the last minute and the Temple told her that he had to be in Israel to help his daughter with school. She didn't forgive him until she confronted him (at my urging) before our wedding. He had actually gone to Israel to bury his father. She felt bad that she had held this grudge for so many years; all from a misunderstanding.

You case? I dunno the details, If you don't work with her you might choose to ignore her, if she really is a good friend she will call you and you can confront her then...

OK, I never said I gave good advice, and free advice is worth what you pay for it...

When I was going through a bitter divorce and wanted to tell the whole world all the bad things my ex had done, my lawyer (who was excellent) advised me against this for two reasons:

1. I will only appear to look backstabbing and petty

2. Sooner or later the truth about my ex would come back and bite him in the rear end

Well, I kept my mouth shut and sure enough, the truth came out and bit him in the read end. And I, of course, came out smelling like a rose ;)

I don't know what you're exact situation is with this deceitful "friend" but you appear to me to have a lot more "class" than her so don't let her bring you down to her level. The truth always comes out in the end. But then again, if she's lying to friends in front of you, call her bluff and definitely let her embarrass and humiliate herself. Am I making any sense?

Sorry to ramble....hope things turn out in your favor....I hate it when friends turn on you....it really sucks....and you're so kind and sweet....you definitely don't deserve to be treated like that.

Gotta hit the hay......I'll try to check in tomorrow.....

Sweet dreams :teeth:

Depplyinluv, could be a movie coming up, Starship Troopers and a couple of others have been.

The story begins the day after the fall of the US. It seems that the US was relying on the Russians to stem the tide of the war of the Pan-Asians. What we did not expect was the Pan-Asians to roll over Mother Russia and keep Going. The story begins with a lowly Lieutenant coming up to a Think Tank to give order to the commanding general that he was released from further orders from the government and was on his own to come up with a way of saving the day. The lieutenant finds all dead but about 5 people in the lab, and it shows how they take back the country... I love the church of the Great Lord Mota....'nuff said

This time I'm REALLY going to bed....

I really missed chatting with ya'll today but hopefully will have more time tomorrow :)

Good night....sleep tight....don't let the bedbugs bite ;)

OUCH....That Darned BedBug...IT BIT ME!!!!!!!!

OK, I was questing old books. I found all but one (the one I really was looking for. These were given to meby a friend who passed away 15 years ago. He was the one who told me about the series I found the compilation of today. The books are old, yellowed, pages coming out. They mean a lot to me, He had 2 daughters. I wonder if I should send them a present; I think that they would really apreciate something that was once their daddy's. What do you think?

:bounce:

Hi ohanafamily and whoever is still here...

I think sending those books would be really sweet. My dad has been gone just over 7 years, and I'd be delighted to receive anything from someone who knew my dad... no matter what it was. I miss him bad still and to know that someone else still thinks of him too would be very special.

any advice on stopping WWIII of the silbing kind? I fought back to talk to my DBF and the sister is planning on making me pay

CourtasanSatine - how old is your sister, and do you have any idea how she's gonna make you pay?
