I would really like to hear about your conference. :goodvibes

I got to interview people from NASA, the National Hurricane Center and a specialist at the Univ. of Oklahoma. The conference brings together all the great minds researching hurricanes (tropical cyclones) across the country. They take all their research and what they've learned from past storms to make a plan for this year. For example, one guy talked about how they are going to remap to better predict storm surge. Another is studying the social interactions of a hurricane. How far in advance should they issue a warning? When an official warning is issued, it costs an area $1 million for each square mile of coast line. That's money used not only to prepare for the storm but money lost from businesses. If a warning is issued to soon, a small business could go under by closing up to prepare.

Another cool fact, a hurricane is so powerful that you could drop an atomic bomb into the middle of one and it wouldn't have an effect. :scared1:

Ok, weather geek lesson is over. :surfweb:

I think I'm stalking you. :rotfl:

Gee whiz...At least you have a life. Some of us only have a mini life. :rotfl2:

I have several lives. Most of them involve The Sims2. . . :rolleyes1

good morning everyone :goodvibes

can I choke my dd and get away with it? :rolleyes1

she waited till 5 min. till we had to leave this morning to print her project which i knew nothing about but couldn't get it to print so she asked me to look at it and I told her we have no paper! boy she got upset so i told her that this is her fault and her responsibility that if she had just said something this weekend and did when she was supposed to this would have been taken care of. then she tried to guilt trip me by saying that she is screwed b/c the teacher doesn't like anyone. i told her that it is not going to work her problem and next time she will do her project and have it done and printed b4 the morning of!! i am so mad at her!! why do they do this?! :sad2:

You did good, but the answer is no, you can't choke your daughter. Shake her a little, yeah, but I absolutely put my foot down about the choking. . .:lmao:

We have cold white stuff. It's called sand. I wouldn't recommend throwing it at anyone though. I went to a hurricane conference today. Fascinating! Really, I'm not being snarky. I'm just checking in from work. I'll post more later.

It was spitting snow this morning. I'd rather have the sand. . .

I'm glad to know that they are looking at bettering the warning system. But I completely understand about not issuing a warning to soon. How many times have we seen an evacuation take place and then the storm either not hit or just swipe the area. When to issue a warning is such a fine time line. I couldn't imagine having that job description. I have heard that fact about the atomic bomb before. Isn't that incredible?! Do you know when this seasons predictions will come out?

Mean Queen, I agree that that fact about the atomic bomb is amazing.

I'm hoping for little hurricane activity this year. It's the one part of the year that living so close to the Atlantic coast has a major disadvantage.

Are you trying to boost your post count?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I'm just trying to stay busy. :goodvibes I'm bored. I like to clean that isn't the problem. I have my schedule down so it doesn't take that long. Then what do I do? I have my Bible study material and I love spending time with that. But I still have time on my hands. I'm trying to fill shopping time. With the economy slow down we are being very careful with money. Actually I have learned things that I will stick with even when times get better. :thumbsup2 I really really like money in the bank. :thumbsup2 And there are things we want to add to the house. I was used to shopping at least 3 times a week. :sad2: So what this whole life story is telling you is.... yes Virginia there is a Santa Clause. :lmao: and you will probably see my post count go up at least for a while. :rotfl:

Boy, I read that wrong. :scared1: At first I thought you were saying that you wanted hurricane activity. :lmao:

Checking in.

AMG. Mom just said she was putting soup in my tinkerbell cup.
Erh .. mom. It's Captain Hook. Not Tinkerbell :lmao:

My kids are driving me BATS tonight!!!!!....:headache: I mean, the last thing we needed was a snow day smack after a whole week off. It's kind of like it throws the whole schedule thing off track. Yes, they've been home for the last 9 days for vacation, but today they were "supposed" to be in school, and since they were not, nobody (including me!!) knew what to do with themselves! Pathetic, I know.

I did manage to finish my latest Disney scrap book. Now I can pack up all those supplies. But I didn't pack one box today. Not one! I was too busy playing referee and laying down ultimatums.:sad2:

I'm also feeling very "Pooh-like" right now. That's because I snacked indiscriminately this afternoon and I feel like a bloated whale. I chalk it up to the schedule being messed with!!!!!!:rotfl:

Hmm.... I didn't know it was possible to confuse those two....

:lmao:

Ok, srsly...what kind of soup?! Sounds warm and yummy.

Both you and Cheermom have permission to choke your children. :thumbsup2 I hope school is in session tomorrow. You need to get packing.

I understand the Pooh-like feeling. As awesome as the Awesome 80's Prom was, I felt very Pooh-like when I saw my pictures.

Here's the rundown on the Prom. It was very fun. It was in a small room. The emcee was the stereotypical "Rocker dude" in parachute pants. He had his Loverboy headband on too. He kept playing with his pants zippers to entice the ladies. :rotfl2: Later came the football captain and head cheerleader. Their entourage included the fat obnoxious football player and the "Heathers". The character based on Ducky Dale from Pretty in Pink was actually very off from the 80's. He was flaming gay (won Prom Queen) and was friends with the popular people. In the 80's, the colorful gay man was never friends with the popular crowd. :sad2: There was also the quirky girl with the headgear, pink high tops, and a Cabbage Patch doll; the dorky guy with the highwaters and Rubik's cube; the conservative couple; the tough guy who tried to lick me; the Asian exchange student named "Fung Shuey" and the hot Swedish exchange student who flirted with all the guys. There were also some other minor characters who helped move props around. The cast mingled with us, the other "Prom" guests, to get our vote for Prom King and Queen. The principal and a teacher walked around checking for alcohol and moving people who danced to close together. :rotfl: It was so much fun, especially if you love 80's music.

Here are a few pictures before the Prom. I'll post my friends pic of the characters when I get them. We went to dinner at Kobe's before hand and felt a bit odd. :lmao:
