Tagless & Formerly Tagless 5 :: The Babnanas are still dancin'!

She had hernia surgery a week ago today. It was a good size hernia, 5 to 6 inches. The actual stitches look good but she is not healing properly. This morning I fed her in the kitchen b/c Hendrick was outside. She can walk around calmly if he is not aruond. Can't take a chance of them playing. Well I turn around and notice bloody spots on the floor under her. She was dripping like a leaky faucet. There is still plenty in her b/c she has a hard bulge on one side of the incision. The leakage is still watery and does not smell. Seems like the hard bulge should be going down by now. UGH I should probably call.

...YIKES! That doesn't sound good....:sad2:

....prayers and hugs your way....

Thanks, Kimmar.

TK

My heartfelt prayers go out to you. If you need someone to talk to, I'm more than willing. I think my phone number is on my facebook page. I've been through something all too similar and my heart goes out to you. I know it's all difficult.

Thank you. I may take you up on that.

 Thinking of you and wishing your Mom better soon.

Thank you very much.

I have 2 (brother and sister) 1/2 Great Dane 1/2 St. Bernard. Their mom was pure bread Saint and Dad pure Dane. Dega is 144lbs and Hendrick 158lbs. Now I'm off to bring Hendrick for a walk with my Moms tiny 6 pounder. They will look pretty funny together. Dega is still confined to the crate most of the time. Had to take her back to the vet yesterday. She has significant leakage and bulging/swelling at the incision site. She is on greater dose of antibiotics and pills to help reduce swelling. Vet said the inside incision is intack and doing fine. For some reason, her body is just not healing well. I have to smell it every day. If it gets a foul odor, that is a bad sign or if it starts to puss instead of the thin bloody leakage, that is also bad. If it does not heal, she will need to go see a specialist for a more serious and expensive operation. Over $1,000 in vet bills the past month with another $50 taken from my grocery budget for more pills. Lets hope she does not need surgery.

Those aren't dogs....they're livestock. :)

SadieDog - did you call? That leaking doesn't sound good.

TK - You and your mom are in my thoughts.

Thank you.

Every day is some good, some bad.

In the mean time, we're all playing the game of hurry up and wait. I've taken the rest of the week off from work. I really don't feel right unless I'm at the hospital, and more specifically, with her. I got to read to her yesterday, and talk to her alone, which was really nice. I had a lot to say in private that I didn't want anyone else to hear. Selfishly, I just want her to wake up, and I'm terrified of not being there if it happens.

Our family and friends have been incredibly supportive, but this all feels surreal to me, like it's not really happening. I want to thank you all for your continued support and prayers.

TK, all I have to offer is cyberhugs and prayers.

During this difficult time, I'm glad you have supportive family and friends.

Not only did I call, but I brought her in to be checked. The good part is the vet thought the bulging sac is looking better than it did Tuesday night when she last saw her. However, she's certainly not out of the woods as far as might needed another surgery. I asked what exactly the problem was. She said that after removing a good size hernia, it leaves a hole. The body compensates by filling the hole with fluid. It's good that the fluid is still watery blood colored. It would be serious if it turned to puss.

She stuck a needle with a tube into the sac and extracted a bunch of fluid. Then she wrapped her body semi-tightly to hold the sac tight in hopes it does not fill up with so much fluid. Then taped both sides of the wrap. The wrap is off now and we are applying steamy washcloth. Supposed to do that often but the wrap cannot be reused so I need to go out this afternoon and buy lots of it. I'm hoping PetSmart carries the vetwrap. She also stressed that if it does not heal, she will have to see a board certified surgeon for a surgery that would cost THOUSANDS. They told me 'expensive' but I had no idea THOUSANDS. She stressed the "S" on thousands. :scared1: Dega is so good. She stays still and lets us, vet techs and the vets do anything to her. She has been excellent about living in a crate and leashed walked only to go to the bathroom. She loves laying on a blanket with us while we hold the washcloth on her. She's so happy to be out of the crate and get our attention, she has not moved.

I'm not too far behind you. . .

Oh SadieDog, I just cannot even IMAGINE!!....big hugs to you. As a rule, I'm a "cat person," but we have a dog (and have had others in the past) and they are just so trusting of their people. It's amazing.

Speaking of dogs, just got back from taking mine on a walk to camp...I think she nearly emptied the water bowl when we got back! It's hot today...I'm actually running the A/C. It's only around 81 but VERY muggy. We're on the tail end of all that storminess going through the plains today. Nice Gulf moisture being sucked right up here!:lmao:

Ok y'all, it's True Confessions time....I just did something very uncharacteristic for me, the penny-watcher (NOpennywise).....

I am SOOOO stinkin' excited I can hardly contain myself!! For some reason this small change has increased the giddy factor to the Nth degree.....

I love walking with my dogs. Mine can't walk when it's too hot though.
