My kids are relatively new to Tae Kwon Do. My DS (10) has been doing it since February. He is about to test for his green belt. My DD (14) just started at the end of June and is getting ready to test for her yellow belt.

Last night, the main instructor asked/invited my DD (14) to be on the leadership team. I am aware that there is a leadership team and that they help with the lower belt classes, but is that all there is to it?

My DD, being a yellow belt, will be helping the white belt classes.

Do your Tae Kwon Do places have these leadership teams and is there more I should know about it?

The way it works at our gym is that once the kids get their jr black belt or black belt, they can help with the other classes. There isn't much to "know" it is just that they help the lower belts learn. You go through the belts a lot faster then we do, though. It takes 3 years to go through the belt levels at our gym. The colored belts don't help out in our gym, except for the red belts preparing to take their black belt test. Our gym is associated with the International Tae Kwon Do Federation out of Korea, though, so that might be the difference. When they complete a belt level, their certificates come from Korea.

Actually, our black belt program is also a 3 year (or longer) program. And they have always had lower belts helping in the classes, although I can say that I have never seen a yellow belt helping. I think the lowest I've seen is a green belt and that was the very lowest belt. Most are black belts. I think our gym is also a member of the International Tae Kwon Do Federation but I'll have to check the paperwork again.
