Tackiest thing ever seen at a Disney Buffet

not a disney buffet, but in atlantic city we go to this buffet and my mom always takes cookies for my dad :lmao: dis sjw

I hope my wife and kids go to buffet and take cookies home for their Dad :thumbsup2

My grandmother used to take stuff from the chinese buffett, and I can remember even as a child being mortified, however after discussing this "trend" with a few people the general concensus was it was because our grandparents lived through the Depression? I dont know I :confused3 still to this day cant explain why she took the stuff we laugh now, because we ALWAYS had a stocked frig.

Jann, Jann, Jann...you are onto something REALLY big here, I think!!!! I would love to see you suggest this next time there is a refillable mug debate!!! :thumbsup2

i don't know....the way the "'tude" has been on the dis lately you must want to see me burnt to a charred cinder :rotfl: :duck: :scared:

Wow. Some of these stories are truly appalling. Luckily, the only tacky thing I have ever seen at a Disney buffet were the 'potatoes with Afritude' at Boma. Gotta love whoever came up with that name. :teeth:

At Red Lobster, we encountered a women with a large purse. She ordered the all-you-can eat shrimp and stuffed zip-lock bags with the shrimp.

Maybe she is on a fixed income.

Oh man, that was my grandmother. I got to where I would not go out with her anywhere. She was a child of the depression and never had "enough" so she was a master of baggies full of shimp and rolls from Red Lobster....

Oh yeah - and she stole the packets of sugar/equal/sweetnlow/etc....

It was embarassing, but what are you going to do - they are old and crochety....

PS - to top it off whe washed the baggies and aluminum foil to use it again at the next spot...it was truly sad.

This is OT but the washing of the baggies reminded me of a family member of my ex husband, like a great aunt or something who would re-use greeting cards. She would cut the name off the bottom and write the name of the next person she would give the cards to. Some had nothing but a little stub left so I dunno if someone gave her the same cards back again or what the deal was, she also saved all wrapping paper, not just the paper from her own gifts. Oh and the baggies and foil thing, she did that too. I got chewed out for trying to throw used foil away once. I never ate out with her, but I'm pretty sure she fits the all-you-can-eat-Shrimp-baggie-purse profile.

This wasn't at Disney, and it wasn't even actually at a buffet. This is something I do, but, you know those salad bars at grocery stores? Whenever I want lettuce, for home, I like spring mix, but that stuff is usually on the expensive side. But at the salad bar, I figured out I can get a pound for $4, instead of pre-packaged name brand bags that add up to about $10 a pound. I don't know if many would consider this tacky or not, but I just do it to save money, since a eat a lot of salads, and they'd add up fast.

The deciding factor for me, is do you stuff it in your purse and walk out? Or pay for it? I'm thinking you are paying for it which just makes you smart.

Now, the 60-something man that was in line after me at the deli, who ate at least 10 hard-boiled eggs from the salad bar and was urging others to do the same was outrageous! Then a week later, there were two young (8-10?) girls who wear eating the fruit out of it as their mom watched. I gave her the look of death :furious: and she finally called the girls over. Who do these people think they are? Sadly, that is why I'll never do salad bars that are not close to monitoring persons/counters. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

How is that tacky? I buy apples loose because it's cheaper than buying the prepacked version, but most people can't be bothered and grab the prepacked stuff. If you pay for everything you take, its only everyone else's fault for paying more than they need to for their salad :goodvibes

I remember reading here on the DIS about people making "salads" for free off of the fixin' bars around WDW. :sad2:

Once we were at one of those restaurants that gives you a bucket of peanuts on the table. The couple next to us had finished eating, asked for a to go box, and dumped their entire bucket of peanuts into the to go box! I had never seen anyone do that before!!

I am not a fan of Buffets!! We call Ryans, etc going to the "trough"....

My husband is always "shushing" me at the various buffets around the world due to the constant horrified look on my face!! A personal pet peeve is when folks eat off of their plates while in line and walking through the restaurant... can they not wait till they sit? or how about wild kids at Chef Mickeys running back and forth grabbing food off the line with their hands, while the parents smile at their cute little darlins? I have decided that many parents think this is ok cause at "the world" they can act like they are not part of the real world!!

We were at AKL Conc. several years ago, and there were 2 families with the worst kids I have ever seen! they had 2 nannies with them... the children would literally grab all of the decorations and "chatkes" off of the table and throw them at each other and into the food. They were horrible! It was like something off of TV...what really made it so amazing is that the parents would just visit with each other as these kids would leap off of the furniture around them. theyy would throw food at each other and on the floor.... you can imagine, the Conc lounge was pretty empty during there visit!! staff was huddled in the corner trying to decide what to do.. guests glaring and muttering!! The next morning, we get to the lounge, and the was not one single accessory/ ornamental item in the lounge!!! Let me just say, that there was not one single concierge guest that did not know when these people checked out! We were there the next year, and CM still knew who they were and what we were talking about. :confused3

A friend of the family does this. She cuts the front off the card and signs the "back" and give it as a christmas, etc card. I would never go to a buffet with her! :rotfl2:

All right...I'll share the horror with you. For YEARS my family avoided WDW buffets like the plague because of my aunt/uncle and their 3 kids. tehy are simply put...PIGS at the buffet. It's like watching a shark feeding frenzy on the discovery channel. They have 4-5 helpings and these are more than "Pooh" sized people. It's grotesque. The clincher for us (to stop going to buffets with them) was many years ago at one of the breakfast buffets, my uncle started berating the server to "stop being so (insert derogatory and VERY unacceptable racist term for cheap) with them potatoes!" A short while later one of my cousins joined us at the table but did not have a plate for her food...she had simply grabbed a TRAY and piled the potatoes and such directly onto the tray (it looked like that scene from Close Encounters with the mashed potatoes!)

We have returned to the buffets, without them.

Wooo Hey!! This thread has given me ideas - some things I've never thought of!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

(ok just in case... j/k but I did lol at the thought of seein that!!)

ETA - my faux paux!!

Ok, we were at a buffet (not disney) that had a champagne brunch - and the waiter would not fill your teeny tiny glass with the cheap Roget Champagne unless you were sitting at your place at the time he poured... ok, that makes sense with underage drinking... so I came back, signaled to the waiter, champagne (holding up my glass) and he turned away... huh? Ok, so 15 min goes by, and the whole time I asked 2 other waiters, now mind you the champagne is sitting behind our table... so I had the audicity to get up and fill my glass!!

and I was horrified at myself!! Yes, 3 waiters watched me do it!! But come on the champagne is $3 a bottle retail!! It was just one glass (it was supposed to be all you can eat and drink buffet too!!) Its not like I put the bottle on our table, or that I drank out of the bottle!!

So I cant imagine taking my plastic baggies and filling them...

Another not Disney buffet, but at HomeTown. I'm used to the kid's doing things like using their hands, mixing the serving spoon's etc. I just can't stand when the staff doesn't understand that something is 'bad'. At the dessert area, a very young child wanted pudding, grabbed the serving spoon and started eating off of it. The table next to me got the attention of the server working that area and told her what was happening. What did she do? She took the spoon away from the child and put it back in the pudding!!! The woman who reported the child told the server that wasn't acceptable, but the server couldn't figure out why.

Same night, we saw a child getting a taco, no plate, using his hands. Another adult saw this, picked up a plate and tried to hand it to the kid. He didn't want a plate, so after putting his taco on it, he picked it up again, handed it back to the adult and the adult put the plate back on the stack of clean ones.

I have also seen guests and employees drop the serving utensil on the floor then pick it up and put it back in the food.

This thread has me cracking up. It is so funny that I saw this today because a few days ago we were at Outback and were sitting in a booth in the bar area where we watched a woman walk up with one of the small bread plates and go to where they had the garnishes for drinks then she filled the plate up with olives and fruit then went back to her table. We could not believe our eyes. We had to ask our server about that one since we knew that she wasn't suppose to be doing that. What was so funny about it though is that she kept looking to see if anyone was watching her.

This is all too hilarious! It reminds me of a baby shower I did -- I did lots of great food and desserts. Mind you, I am an over-planner and there was waaaay too much food for the amount of people there. I had all of these brownies, caramel chocolate cookies bars, cheesecake, etc left. The ladies completely and utterly cleaned me out. Not kidding -- didn't even ask if they could take a few home! They just took everything w/o thinking that the person who made it all (me) might want some to take home. I came up to the table and there wasn't so much as a crumb and one lady smiled and said "Here you can take home a few veggies" -- she has brought a vegetable tray and it had like 4 broccolis and a carrot on it. Um, thanks -- hubby and kids would just love snacking on that. People are so unbelieveable!
I was once at a buffet in Vegas and this little kid had like 50 packets of those saltine crackers. Are you kidding me -- who needs that many crackers. The parents were just smiling away
ay yi yi

This past September at Chef Mickeys there were 2 kids (10-12) filling up baggies from the cereal dispencer. Not at Disney but at a restaurant near home with a salad bar a man kept walking up and grabbing olives with his hands and eating them. This was a restaurant where the cost of a meal for 2 people would be over $50 without drinks. I've learned money cannot buy manners.
