Hello All. Please help our family settle a disagreement.

We were playing Taboo when this card came into question:

Guess Word: Colonel Sanders

Taboo Words:

Kentucky
Fried
Chicken
Finger
Lickin'

The clue giver said the letter "K" when the person was buzzed they got miffed and said the rest of the group was cheating.

One of the rules in the game says "No initials or abbreviations can be given if the words they represent are included on the card. Examples: MD cannot be used if medical or doctor is the Guess Word or a Taboo word. TV cannot be used if television is the Guess Word or a Taboo word."

You would think that family game night was supposed to be fun...

I wouldn't think you could use K as in KFC. I would have buzzed them as well.

Sorry, I think a buzz might be in order.

Could the clue-giver have said?...

Harlan
white
suit
beard
Southern
food
founder

agnes!

buzz!

It would be one thing if they had said "T" for Taco Bell but KFC is too common a name for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

According to the rules you posted, I'd have to buzz as well.

Since Kentucky Fried Chicken was on the card - the "K" represented the start of "KFC".... so to not buzz would be as if to say in the "television" example, that although "TV" is not okay, that just "T" would be. Nope - not gonna fly. ;) If TV is not allowed - T is not allowed either. The "K" is pretty well known to be the abbreviation of Kentucky in "KFC" and Kentucky was on the card. KFC clearly wouldn't be okay - so K is not either.

Actually - I'd be against most letters by themselves in general, but that's a whole other rules debate. ;)

Taboo is a great game - we're always asked to bring it for game night. Both DH and a I agree that KFC would not have been allowed, so we would have buzzed them.

We are die hard taboo players and that deserved a buzz big time. I wouldn't berate the "K" person though. It is a tough game, especially for new comers.

I'd like to suggest the game apples to apples!! We love to play it and there isn't a right or wrong answer. It's just plain fun for all ages.;)

Since the suits at KCF Corp have officially declared that KFC stands for "Kitchen Fresh Chicken" - he's safe...at least until he gets to the "C" in KFC.

That's my story, and I'd be sticking to it ;)
