Tablo Device for OTA TV

If you want the cable kind of stuff, but at a lower cost, look at Sling (the paid service) - they have TNT, TBS, Food, Discovery, History, HGTV, USA, etc, etc, for less than $50/month. Two basic packages to choose from, and then you can add on, if you want certain extras. No OTA channels/networks (except in a very few markets). They also have an OTA DVR (Sling AirTV), but I find Tablo to be more reliable, personally.

Prime Days are coming, as is Black Friday, if you're looking for a(nother) sale. You can also find some good deals on Tablo on eBay, if you buy that way. I actually got our Tablo 4th gen that way, as I was a little leary after the two AirTVs had trouble.

Oh, eBay does have some good prices! I would think a used unit would be okay really. That may be the way to go....

Streaming was always supposed to be the consumer paying more for the content than they did to their cable/satellite provider.

The consumer's just didn't know that was the plan.

When people started clamoring for Internet-based television programming so they could get rid of their cable TV packages, some of us were like, "Be careful what you wish for..." We could imagine the future of people having to subscribe to a zillion different streaming services to get all the channels they wanted.

We had Sling, but they raised the price on it 3 times in 2 years. I had enough so changed to the DirecTV plan.

BTW, someone mentioned Black Friday upthread. Black Friday is the PERFECT time to get streaming services. Most of them have a special for new members and my DH and I take turns being the primary person and we use different emails and credit cards.

No Disney Channel on that? That is one I like to have - though they really don't have much at the moment. I am always waiting for that next Secrets of Sulphur Springs or something. It all ends up on D+ eventually though.

Well, that's just on that very basic lineup. They probably don't include Disney because it is one of the more expensive channels to carry.

I bought a Tablo device 1+1/2 years ago, and I love it. I had already hooked up a flat antenna (on a window near my tv) before canceling my cable. Once I knew I was happy with local OTA reception, I never looked back!
I hooked up the Tablo unit (by the window, coaxiol cable to antenna and ethernet cable to my router) I use a Roku on both tv's. I set it to record my regular network shows and it works great. I've found that if I wait for the recording to be over it will show a little picture so you can see when to stop during fast forwarding. If it's still recording the show, I have to fast forward by time elapsed without knowing.

There have been a few times when the weather was stormy and the reception was spotty. On those days, I used Hulu the day after, but I had to sit through commercials lol. Also there was once over this past summer where it didn't record for 2 days, I don't know why, but I unplugged it for 2 minutes and it's back to normal. I subscribe to Netflix, HBO, and Disney+. My son has a student Hulu account. I love not having a cable bill on top of that!

Don;t know about Tablo but we dropped DirecTV for YoutubeTv and feel that it was worth the switch. While we do not get all of the channels we had before, we get most of them and noticed recently that a few others have recently been added.

I know, right? It got three seasons, which isn't bad for Disney Channel, but there was more they could have done. Just great stuff though.
