I would like to get my almost 4 year old a tablet. She was using my old iPad mini but it disappeared a few months ago. She mainly uses it to watch Netflix, Disney+ and do games on ABC mouse.
I have my fingers crossed we will be able to do some travel next year and would like her to have her own device to use on the plane.
Was looking at an Amazon Kindle Fire. Don’t want anything that I can’t get Disney+ or Netflix. Hoping to stay around $100 maybe a little more.

I personally would just get her a tablet like an iPad that can grow with her and a good protective case. My DS13 is still using his iPad that he got when he was younger.

I would recommend a Samsung Galaxy tablet.
You want something that is going to work well for what you want to use it for.
If you're using it for videos then you don't want something that's main purpose is reading.
Whatever you get just be sure to get a protective case. I personally have a kid friendly foam bumper case on mine and I don't have kids...

Most apps (including video streaming ones) stop supporting older operating systems after about 5 or 6 years. And the cheaper devices always have older operating systems. While they can still be used, they become slow, un-updatable and difficult.

I just replaced my 10 year old nephews ipad for his birthday. His was used and about 5 or 6 years old and he only had it for a year before he could not play any newer games on it. He was constantly getting compatibility errors and the games he wanted would not work.

I got him a Samsung Tab A8. 1/3 of the price of an apple device but its great for what he needs. He can watch youtube and play kids games, and will be fast enough for a couple of years.

I got myself a cheap $60 tablet just to run some Bluetooth lights. I was worried I would have to hide it from my niece and nephew but the thing is so slow they don't want to touch it.

Id go with the Kids kindle. They are great. Parental controls are much better than Ipad. You get a year of the Kindle freetime unlimited or whatever it's called now included. There are a TON of learning apps and games and tv shows included in that. Also if it gets broken in the 1st 2 years, they fix/replace it with no questions asked. 100% worth the money. Also you can have a kids profile and adult profile so you can use it too.

My kids had fire tablets at first we got them on amazon prime day for $ 25 they were fine at first but we started having issues with only using the Amazon store. We ended up with some cheap kid android tablet at walmart they came with the shockproof case and everything for $45. It has been so much better. As my kids got older we wanted some learning apps that were only available in Google play or ios so we went cheap in case they broke them but do far so good .

@pinkxray - Xmas 2019 my younger daughter bought
Samsung Galaxy 8" Tab A Wi-Fi Tablet 32GB - Silver - Includes Bonus 32GB MicroSD Card
for my grandchildren who are now 4 and 5 years old. These were $139.99 at Costco and she also bought thick cases for them, probably on Amazon.

She downloaded videos and also some educational stuff. The girls love them! These are now $109.99 at Costco until 2/21/21.

We had the kids version so never had any of those problems. There were so may apps available on the freetime they didn't need anything else. On my profile on it I side loaded the google play store though so I could also download apps from there and add it to the kids profile if I wanted to.

My 5 year old has a Kindle Fire that we bought a durable case for. He uses it for music at bed time and when we are traveling. Not having the Google Play store would be a concern for me, but not for a kid so young, Free Time Unlimited and the Amazon app store have more than enough. If you really want something not available on the Amazon app store you can always side load it, which you can't do with Apple.
